I’ve enjoyed this tea many times at The Secret Tea Room, and this is the first time that I am making some at home. I don’t know why, but I just really love this tea. Maybe it’s because I’m enthralled with the show of the same name, or maybe it’s because it reminds me of cold, snowy days and having lunch at TSTR with a pot of this to warm us up; I don’t know. The dry leaves smell pretty plain, just very lightly of an ordinary black tea. The tea itself, however, smells warmly of wonderful, fruity jam. This is a very robust black tea that is almost a little bitter, but it’s not quite there. The best part is the sweet and malty fruity aftertaste. I like this tea best with milk and sweetener. At TSTR, I’ve always had this tea with white sugar and milk. At home I always use Stevia and I was a little worried that I wouldn’t love this tea as much without the white sugar. No worries there – it is just as good with stevia! This tea is everything that I like in a black tea – strong, malty and a little bit of a sweet fruit flavor that can stand up to milk. Perfect!

-Dry blend has small black tea leaves and twigs.
-Dry leaves smell lightly of black tea. Tea liquor aroma is of fruity jam.
-Tea liquor is a clear deep reddish brown color.
-Robust and almost bitter black tea flavor and finish. Lightly sweet malty and fruity aftertaste.
-Best with milk and sweetener.
-Excellent tea. Perfect black tea with a hint of fruity jam.

I’m guessing this is only available from the tea room directly and not online?

Downton Abbey, aw! I bet that tea would be as delicious as the show is great!

Josie Jade

I think it is only available in store, since their website doesn’t have anywhere to add them to a cart or checkout.

Bummer! I love ANYTHING Downton!!!

yssah

maybe like RLT you can contact the company about it

Josie Jade

I thought maybe TSTR’s teas came from the same source as Culinary Teas, but I can’t find that on their website. :(

Where is The Secret Tea Room? Or is it a secret? :D

Found it! And I see this tea listed….or is that just the menu?

Josie Jade

It’s on State Street in Greensboro. The menu and the teas that they have are listed on their website, but I don’t think you can actually order from the website. I’m not sure if you could place an order over the phone, maybe, for anyone interested?

I was hoping this was a discussion about how you love to drink tea while watching my favorite TV show. I love how the ladies downstairs are always holding some form of teapot or urn with a towel wrapping around it. The staff drink tea as a group and discuss the gossip of the day upstairs. I love how they unwind with a cuppa. Now I am alays in search of heavy earthenware tea pots to lug around and offer people a cup to have a gab. Downton Abbey rocks!

Josie Jade

I do like to drink this tea, especially, while watching Downton Abbey, I love the show too!!

Floral but not aggressively so, with a hint of berries. It is slightly malty, and not very astringent. Overall, a smooth, well-balanced blend that is easy to drink and takes milk and sugar well. The perfect pot to share with a new tea friend!
