British Blend

This is another brand I would occasionally drink with my Grandpap, when he wasn’t drinking Lipton or Red Rose. I keep this in stock for the quick cup, hurry up tea. It is not as good as Red Rose (not as smooth). It is a stronger, more astringent, and sometimes bitter cup that needs a little milk to soften the edges. It is also slightly better than Tetley’s Original Blend. This was my 3rd cup for the Dog Show Tuesday night.

I used my cup that had the Oregon Chai in it, hoping a little sweetness left in the cup from that, would help soften the tea a little. I made the mistake of using two teabags at a 4 minute steep. Not much to say, except that it was stronger & more bitter than usual, & I could taste the Chai leftover flavors a little bit. ://

So, Lotis had fallen asleep, and I finished watching the tail end-hahaaha, of the Dog Show. We fell asleep side by side, and I woke up a few hours later to strong, bitter, cold tea. ://

Tea of the morning…..

I know I am always hesitant to try a bagged tea anymore, but really, I should just get over that. This is good. It kind of reminds me of the English Breakfast from Trader Joe’s. Good basic black tea that is still miles away from Lipton. It will never replace my Keemun for breakfast tea, but this travels so much better. The teabags look normal. (I always get a little self-conscious about the tea bags that you fill on your own. People are usually not used to seeing such an oddly shaped bag.)

I do like that there is a little more tea in them than a standard tea bag as I usually drink tea by the mug rather than the cup. It really helps that I know how to brew tea, too. In my pre-loose leaf days I did not brew correctly, so it is a wonder I ever had an enjoyable cup of tea back then.

Mug with 1 teabag, boiling water, about 3 minutes. Lightly sweetened.

This is the supposedly British version of Tetley marketed to the US. I’m not sure if it is the exact same blend as found in the UK, but to me it tastes kind of weak. Hopefully the Tetley across the pond is stronger!

PG Tips or Yorkshire blow this away, however, it is better than Lipton….barely.

I fixed some of this because it was leftover from a party and I just wanted some simple iced tea with my lunch. I felt funny steeping Tetley tea in my Teavana tumbler. ;P I brewed double strength but I regret not timing the steep because it made it bitter. I went ahead and added both extra sugar and lemon. Once the ice melted it was a pretty decent drink. :)

My mother bought this because after 30+ years of drinking Lipton, she decided that they had changed the tea and that it was now bland and flavorless. She tried the regular Tetley first, and found that it was even more bland that Lipton. She siad the British blend tasted somewhat better, so I decided to give it a try.

I steeped the tea the maximum time of 5 minutes the box suggested, since I anticipated it would not have a great deal of taste. It was better than Lipton or the American Tetley, like a watered down English Breakfast tea. Not completely flavorless nor bitter, but not satisfying either. Just inoffensive. I would probably never drink this again unless a friend served it to me and I didn’t want to offend them by refusing.

I just tried this for the first time at a mission trip fair, so I had no control over how the tea was steeped, but I drank some with milk—of course—and was surprised by its body and flavor. From what I understand, Tetley’s British Blend is a fairly standard black tea, and I find it absolutely delicious. What surprised me the most was that despite its probably too lengthy steep time, it was not bitter. One of my fellow tea-lovers and I are even planning to see if the stand has any teabags left over after the fair!

British Blend? As if! American Blend is a more accurate name. I lived in England for five years and this Tetley tastes like a pale shadow of the Tetley in England.

My second-favourite bagged black tea brand in the world thusfar. If I went a morning without it, I’d probably struggle the whole day. I also enjoy the decaf version every evening and often use it as a base for blending.

I like this tea. It’s simple and perfect with milk and sugar, it isn’t close to being my favorite but I’d consider it a staple in my cupboard since I can always go to it if I can’t make up my mind. It is my Mother’s favorite (she won’t drink anything else) and so I’ve grown up with it.

A pleasantly strong flavored tea. Good with milk and sugar.
