Rou Gui tea is made with the leaves picked from tea plants grown in Wu yi Mountains in Fujian Province. As a kind of high-aroma tea, it belongs to the well-known Wuyi “rock ”or “cliff ” (武夷岩茶) tea family. Rou Gui ( Chinese: 肉桂) here literally means cinnamon in English, since its dry leaves give a distinctive impression of sweet flowers and fruits aroma paired with gentle cinnamon-like fragrance. After brewing, Rou Gui tea presents a clear and peach-hued liquor with distinct cinnamon-like aroma, filling the mouth with a mellow and roasting flavor and lingering sweet end note. Even after 7 infusions this tea still can hold clean liquor and pleasant aroma.

I find it to be a good alternative for smoked lapsangs, which I initially was a big fan of but cooled over time. Unlike them, this Rou Gui is less abrasive and more friendly and cozy.

Very dark leaves with and obvious roasted aroma. Brews a deep red orange. The dark roast dominates the flavor profile, reminding me a bit of French roast coffee, but there is also a light fruitiness to it that reminds me of strawberries and lemon zest. Not bitter, but it is slightly tart. I get just a hint of something floral in the aroma.
This tea is decent, but the roast is too dark in my opinion.

I got this as a sample, brewed exactly as the package said. I’m not much of an oolong person so… forgive the blunt note. This one has the “plastic” oolong note that I can’t peg, which I’m beginning to think is my interpretation of a certain floral flavour. I put it in quotations because it isn’t like it literally tastes like plastic, it’s just something about it makes me think of plastic. So this is quite floral. The dry leaves had smelt quite roasty borderline cocoa which got me excited, but ultimately this tastes like every other oolong I’ve had (few they may be).
Leaving no number ‘cause honestly I’m beginning to think this is just how oolongs are and they personally aren’t my cup of tea (HUR HUR HUR).
I wonder if it is the taste that reminds me of the smell of acrylic paint when I had art lessons as a kid. We have been referring to it as a latex note! I actually like it.
Ooooh! Definitely, latex is much more fitting for it. Good to know a better descriptor for it, and that it isn’t just me having wonky tastebuds.
Dark oolong with a golden orange color and a sweet baked floral aroma. This tea has a fruity and floral flavor with hints of kiwi strawberry and gardenias. It is slightly peppery and has a pleasing aftertaste.
