From Teavana

Sturdy stainless steel envelops timeless Yixing clay in this practical and innovative thermal tea tumbler. The clay lining provides the tumbler with the unique ability to absorb the flavors with continued use of the same tea. Yixing clay (also known as zisha clay) is porous and will become seasoned with the tea steeped within. So we recommend these for use with one tea type – which is why they are adorned with our symbols for white, green, black or oolong tea. Comes complete with a removable stainless steel strainer for steeping on the go. Holds 12oz of tea. Not for use in microwave, dishwasher or on stovetop.

To use:
Pre-heat tumbler by filling with hot water, letting stand for several minutes and then draining. Place loose tea into tea infuser then put infuser into tumbler. Fill with hot water and steep for the time and temperature appropriate for your tea. After steeping, remove infuser basket and enjoy!
To clean, simply empty tea leaves and rinse with hot water, then air dry. Do not use soap.

Pretty, nice design, keeps tea warmer for longer than expected and yixing, so in about a year, I will have a wonderfully seasoned tea tumbler!

Note: I always have such issues with yixing because I can not decide with what I want to season them. I have several mugs and tea sets that are yixing that go widely unused for this reason, however, I think with the travel mug all will be fine since I only drink one or two teas in the morning on my daily drive to work.

I was looking into sourcing these and find them interesting in concept. I have a beautifully cured yixing purple clay teapot that is dedicated to black teas/shou pu erhs and another dedicated to oolongs and another dedicated to sheng pu erh and each makes compliments the tea down the path.

These are very nice. I was warned it can break if dropped, but I have been very careful. The brushed stainless steel is very attractive, with rubber accents to seal the top closed and keep the bottom from damaging surfaces and possibly leaving a water ring. The outside can get a bit warm, though it holds heat nicely (about an hour and a half, I’ve found) so all-in-all I think that this was worth the purchase.

If anyone has suggestions – or if I am completely wrong with seasoning this yixing, please let me know. I have seasoned two mugs (one with the Chocolate Pu-Erh and one with a Dragonwell) but this is my first with oolong. I am having trouble picking, because honestly, I don’t have years and years worth of any oolongs, my two absolute favorites are discontinued/no longer available and I am trying to season with similar oolong tea so that I can enjoy what remains of those. This is most likely completely wrong, but not sure what else I can do…

season the yixing to a ‘type’ of tea….black, pu erh, green, oolong…etc….don’t worry so much about the specific tea…but I would suggest if you going to use flavored/flavor additive teas, that you use glazed or glass as the flavorings are often a mix of ‘natural’, artifical, and synthetic and you don’t want those elements to embue into ceramic

Excellent! Glad I’m doing it sort of right! Thanks!

I wanted to get a Yixing teapot but got this tumbler instead. It’s pretty (I got the Oolong dragon one), portable and makes a big difference when brewing tea compared to in a non-yixing clay teapot. In this marriage of classic and modern, their love child the Yixing Traveler Tea Tumbler from Teavana is one of a kind and beautiful. I will be getting another one, or two, or three. Yes, it only holds 12oz but most Yixing teapots I’ve seen hold 6oz to 12oz anyway and you don’t have to worry about breaking this one. I love how Teavana have unique items like this tumbler and other great finds like their Alasdair Glass Tea Kettle.

A long lost item has been rediscovered in the cup cabinet today. I thought I had lost this a few months ago, but my wife simply put it where it belonged—with the other tea mugs.

Who knew?

This was my black tea tumbler prior to my conversion to pu-erh. It keeps tea hot for a good 3-4 hours, so it’ll be perfect for this winter drive to work today.

Now that I have rediscovered this, I’ve decided to start drinking black tea again. So, I’m currently drinking 2013 Classics 58 Big Tree Black Tea from Puerhshop.com before work (review to come later).
