Made on the stovetop per the Samovar extra black tea recipe with Teavana Assam Gold Rain as the extra black tea.

The dry mixture smells mostly of cinnamon with a touch of ginger.

Not as spicy as the Rishi and not as rich as the Samovar, but a tasty, mild blend. It reminds me of the Golden Moon Kashmiri Chai in terms of flavor, but I prefer the GM. On the continuum of very spicy to less spicy, this is less spicy than the Golden Moon, which I already found to be pretty mild. There is pepper listed among the ingredients, but I wasn’t at all aware of its presence.

I’d probably choose another blend over this one for my staple milder chai, but I wouldn’t at all mind drinking this if it were offered to me.

I have not yet tried any teas from TeaGschwendner but it is a company that I’ve been planning a purchase from for some time now. It is nice to be able to try a tea from them before placing an order.

I tried it first without steamed, frothed milk or sweetener, and I found that after brewing 4 minutes, there was a hint of bitterness to the tea. When I added the milk and honey, the bitterness disappeared.

But what didn’t disappear is the bold, strong presence of the tea and the warm and peppery spices. It is a pleasantly spiced chai. YUM!

Not as good as my holy grail chai, but pretty good! Dominant ginger and cinnamon notes, and a smell of gingerbread. Great with soy milk and sweetener. Sad I only got a single pack og this now, because it’s really quite enjoyable. The spices aren’t particular spicy or dominating, so if that’s what you’d like, I’d suggest you look elsewhere, but if you want a smooth chai, I’d recommend this. It might be better steeped with more than the recommended amount of tea for a stronger flavour, but it’s really good, and unlike the Celestial Seasonings chai, it doesn’t have that heavy vanilla that makes it seem inauthentic.

Overall, this is a good quality, easy-to-drink chai for people who are keen on ginger and cinnamon as the key players of the flavour, and who are perhaps not looking for a dessert-y experience heavy on vanilla.

Advent day 18. Took a few sips before adding cream and honey and was greeted with a concentrated brew with spices. After adding to my cup I get a deep tea taste with a mixture of spices on top. The spices are blended so well that I can’t really pick them out individually. It’s a warm and comforting cup, but I feel so so about it in general.

This is currently my favorite chai (and, paradoxically, another one I forgot to leave a note for). It can power through three reinfusions at the least, but I can’t help but wonder why the black tea is so minced up — it’s like the consistency of black pepper.

Anyways, this is a rather forgiving chai that probably won’t knock the socks off too many.
