This is a classic Oolong tea from China with a beautiful, relaxing flavor. The medium grade does not mean lesser, just different tasting. The tea has a fantastic buttery smooth flavor with soft floral hints that many say remind them of lilac. Drinking Iron Goddess is the ultimate “Take a Moment for yourself tea.” It truly takes you somewhere else. This tea is grown in Anxi County of Fuijan Province, China.

Iron Goddess Medium Grade Oolong Tea from Tea Setter is a pure delight! I’ll get right to it, folks! It’s been a while since I have enjoyed a Medium Grade Iron Goddess this much! It’s Semi-Floral and Semi-Juicy with a touch of juiciness and a hint of sweet. It has a fair amount of thickness to it for an Iron Goddess, too!
It stands up to multiple infusions. It’s amazing as-is and straight-up but very nice both hot and cold as well as with additions such as agave nectar. Delightful!

Some of the jasmine is covered up by a vegetal scent, but this is erased as soon as you brew up that first infusion. Now, for “medium grade,” this tea still knows how to make a very good first impression. Jasmine is a fact of life when it comes to Iron Goddess Oolongs, or Tie Guan Yin, so skip ahead if you don’t like flowers between your teeth. For the petal pushers, don’t miss out on this oolong–just the aroma brings with it a feeling of being clean.
Normally, floral teas can get oily on the aftertaste, but this one leaves your mouth actually refreshed! What joy! I have been debating whether to begin with Teasetter’s medium grade or their high grade Iron Goddess of Mercy (what a name!). I decided to start low and climb to the heights.
Well, if this is “medium” grade, then I have to say that I’m impressed! The gnarled nuggests are dark green with shading and quite fragrant. They produce a pale yellow veering green liquor, which to be honest reminds me a lot of later infusions of a couple of milk oolongs I’ve tasted of late. Clearly this oolong is also on the green side of the spectrum, but it has a bit less milkiness and seems more limpid—tastewise—to me.
Very enjoyable and nothing like the low-grade filter bag oolong dust which turned me off from this type of tea in a very big way for far too long!
second infusion: just as good as the first
third infusion: beginning to wane. Do people really get “several” good infusions out of their oolong teas, as I read somewhere? Am I being too demanding on the flavor front?
