From Tea Mountain

After a long time, we were able to find Wu Yi teas that are affordable and in this context match our ideas of what the traditional Yan Cha (Cliff or Rock Oolong, as these teas are sometimes called) to fulfill. It is a blend of tea from the inner Wu Yi (Zhen Yan) and tea from the outer Wu Yi (Ban Yan) from traditional cultivars, roasted three times on charcoal in the traditional style. The teas are produced by one of the oldest companies in the Wu Yi area under the guidance of experienced tea masters and are traditionally packed in rice paper.

Cultivar: Qi Dan

Harvest time: spring 2016

Area: Wu Yi (outer Wu Yi), Fujian

[Spring 2016 harvest]

A good yan cha whose aftertaste is the most intense and memorable aspect. Unfortunately, it only lasts for 6 infusions.

It has an aroma with notes of vanilla pudding, chocolate cookies, and cherries. Taste-wise it reminds me of tobacco, sweet wood, blood, and black currants. The finish is savoury at first, then turning more sweet and woody with a buttery flavour. The body is light and the cha qi mild and warming.
