English Breakfast

It’s got that distinct, Guiness-y Assam scent that I just love. A slight, pleasing bitterness on the back of the tongue after it’s been swallowed is more memorable than the initial taste. It tarries with you a bit, and I really dig that.

(1st steep: 5 min) There is a very distinct aroma to an English breakfast teas. That is my first thought when smelling this tea. There is all of the usual aromas of a black tea along with a slight breadiness. I imagine as it cools some sweeter fruit aromas will appear. The first flavor I pick up from this tea is biscuit followed by a slight tart bitterness. It reminds me of an almost ripe strawberry or blueberry.There is a dry mouthfeel to this tea, but it doesn’t seem to dry the mouth. I believe in all the English breakfast teas I have tried this is the second on I have liked. I am curious as to how the second steeping will turn out.
(2nd steep: 5 min 30 sec) The aroma is the same as from the first steeping, but the flavor has changed slightly. There is still the dry mouthfeel which I enjoy. However, there is less biscuit flavor. Taking its place is a slightly sweet fruit flavor. It is subtle and doesn’t remain long. I would love to have more of this tea to enjoy on a daily basis.

A deeply flavored tea with a nice, mild tannin profile. A gently astringent flavor winds its way through the first cup, not strong enough to pucker, but bracing enough to refresh and perk up the palate. The tea was bone dry, with depth from some toasty and nutty notes, but not a grain of sweetness to it. A beautiful malty flavor developed as the tea cooled, which really endeared this cup to me. Fantastic example of a balanced black tea. 8.5/10, really enjoyable overall.

A very nice example of a malty Assam without bitterness. But it doesn’t have a whole lot of maltyness or coppery metallic taste either. The second steep tasted much like the first. An enjoyable cup of tea but not one I’d need in my tea cupboard

I really enjoyed it, it’s got a nice caramel taste. I would definitely welcome a tin of it in my cupboard.

I am sad that it’s gone. It’s one of my favorites from the two Steepster select boxes I’ve received so far.

Average nothing special black tea. I’d say it’s on the milder end of the Assam spectrum—easy to drink for a wide array of peeps just getting to know teas. Maybe not too dazzling for the connoisseur.

Really delicious – as good as any Assam I’ve had. I followed the brewing instructions on the Steepster Select package. And I drank it with a bit of milk — Assam’s ability to stand up to milk is a reason I love it.

The dark, chopped, dry leaf smells good, like shortbread,,,maybe a touch of cocoa scent.
Liquor is a deep deep red-orange color with a delicious aroma of shortbread, raisin pie.
You can see in the wet leaves that they are all uniformly chopped and a fall brown color.
Flavor is rich, good, not as sweet as it smells. Has a touch of bitter,,,like a 1 on a scale of 1-10. So if you are a milk and sugar person, this is perfect.
I added some of my homemade almond milk and date sugar to this (sorry Brits lol) and it was yummy. Helped to wake me up this morning because my doggie likes to get up early :)
