Yumberry Blackcurrant

This brews up to a beautiful purple-red colour, and smells very fruity after brewing, though the hibiscus smell is strong. It is the first ingredient in this tea. I did make this with a tsp of sugar because I know that I will taste nothing but hibiscus otherwise.

I think what I taste most strongly is the yumberry, though I have not had this berry before and it is just a guess. The black currant is next and it almost has a cloying taste to it that lingers into the aftertaste. I can feel the taste even in the corners of my mouth it is a bit overwhelming. I’m not sure if I like this or not but next time I try it will be with half the sugar.

I didn’t taste anything yummy about this yumberry. The flavor was a bit weak and there was something weird here that I’m guessing was the licorice powder.. There seemed to be a lot of ingredients here for such a weak tea.

As a general rule I avoid teas that end up red or purple in color. I’ve tried a few and never had one I really like. Although I should know better I got another one and to my surprise it was pretty decent. Sweetish and fruity but not cloyingly so. I probably won’t get it again but I’m willing to finish what I’ve got.

The dry leaf aroma of this is stirring something in my childhood memory bank, but I can’t pinpoint what it is. For a moment, I thought it was Hubba Bubba Bubble Tape. Unfortunately, this tea’s flavor isn’t nearly as strong or delicious as the aroma. I’m surprised. Usually hibiscus is quite strong, and I steeped this for 5 minutes. Hibiscus is the dominant flavor at the beginning and end of the sip, with the yumberry sneaking in in the middle. The end of the sip is also really tart, which I am confident can be attributed to the hibiscus as well. Yumberry Hibiscus would be a more appropriate name.

Overall, this is only mildly disappointing. I feel like it could be amazing if the yumberry was punched up to be more prominent than the hibiscus. I got this as a free sample at work, so I have no idea how old it is. Maybe a fresher batch would have more oomph. Regardless, I really like the yumberry flavor. I just wish I could remember what it reminds me of…

This is a little better than Stash’s other fruit flavored herbals. It has a strong fruity flavor, and I don’t taste as much clashing from the herbs. It still has a licorice aftertaste, though. I don’t really like it, but it’s somewhat more drinkable than the last few I’ve tried.
