This is a relatively lively biodynamic tea from the fertile plains of the Dooars in North India, south of the Himalayas. The liquor has a typical India green tea flavor with a mouth feel that is pleasant with some bite.

Elephant’s Garden

Putharjhora lies in the plains beneath the fabled hills of Darjeeling. Literally meaning ‘stone streams’, the Putharjhora gardens are not only home to the tea workers, but also to the wild elephants that come from as far away as the Bhutan hills.

Education
Fair Trade premiums fund estate elementary and junior high schools. In addition, transportation is provided for students who attend school off-site. Grants are awarded to outstanding students every year.

Health
The workers have hired a medical officer and medical staff to provide on-site health care.

Did You Know?

Tea bags were born serendipitously by an American tea merchant Thomas Sullivan. He sent samples of tea to his customers in small silk bags, which he thought would be opened up and placed into a teapot as usual. Instead his customers mistook these small bags as a sieve to hold the tea in while dipping them in the hot water. When their orders of tea did not come packaged in these bags, they complained and requested that their tea be packaged in the individual bags as their samples were. From there, the tea bag was born, and rapidly became a popular and convenient way to drink tea.
