From RiverTea

You’ve reached the end of another long day, you’ve powered through all your tasks and responsibilities and now you seek a tasty drink that will ease your racing mind for a pleasant and peaceful evening? What better way than falling into the warming, soothing embrace of a cup of this unique Milky Oolong tea? As the name suggests, this is a delightfully smooth and milky brew that will wrap you seductively, mind, body and soul, into its warm, creamy folds. Immediately after withering the still moist leaves are heated shortly in milk water steam, which invokes the distinct creamy scent and taste. Its sweet aroma is that of the smooth milk bottle pick-and-mix sweets of your youth, of vanilla infused with cream, and of slowly melting sugar.

How odd, I was sure I reviewed this last time I drank it! It certainly made an impression on me, but maybe I just wasn’t up to putting my thoughts into words at the time. This is my first milk oolong and I have to say I really like the style. It’s slightly sweet and undeniably milky with a little bit of earthiness—I’ve never put milk in an oolong before but I imagine this is what it would taste like. It’s an interesting and satisfying cup and I can easily see myself going through a pot of this at a time.

Marco Lewis TTB

158 degrees?! At that temperature is it even still tea?!? Well, they know their tea best right? :P

I made this tea gongfu style

1st steeping: 40 seconds at 160F. Hmm pretty tasty but slightly weak. Sweet buttery flavor. I think if I bump up the temperature the flavor won’t be so weak.
2nd steeping: 40 seconds at 180F. Oh no, the milky buttery flavor is gone and it’s all vegetal now. That means I put the temperature too high :(
3rd: 50 seconds at 160F. Jackpot! After lowering the temp back down again the wonderful sweet buttery flavor is back. Take a lesson from me, increase the time, not the temperature with this one (or if that doesn’t work, add more leaves!)
