From Rishi Tea

Organic White Buds is one of the premier spring teas from the Mannong Manmai Ancient Tea Association. Harvested in March and the first few days of April in very limited quantities, the cool spring weather provides the slow growing buds with concentrated flavor and aroma. This is the only season that the perfect temperature and humidity conditions are present for the proper withering and final processing of White Buds. This rare white tea has a smooth and rich, almost nectar like mouth feeling with a sweet finish that suggests white peach, dried apricot, persimmon and honey wine. The aroma has a unique floral aspect with nuances of lily and magnolia. If you infuse enough buds this special tea can be infused multiple times, the first few will offer a sweet and complex flavor while the later infusions wake you up with strength and brisk flavor. The clear, reddish-amber colors of the later infusions have nuances of top quality Sheng Pu-erh and are a sure sign that your drinking an antique assamica varietal tea.

Origin: Yunnan, China.

I walked in to the office after a brisk little walk and my colleague mentioned she helped herself to the tea on my desk. Totally cool! She LOVED it. She had never tried it before but I always keep a stash in my desk!
This tea is like nectar. I like to brew it strong. I think that when you brew it strong you are really extracting the body of tea found in ancient tea trees. There are nice fruity notes in this tea. I taste peach and nectar and the love of the ancient trees.

I ruined this tea the first time I tried it with what was apparently too-hot water so for a while I thought it was no good. I decided to give it another go and accidentally let the boiling water cool for what I thought would be too long. I don’t play with exact temps but cooler water is better for this one, for sure.

Very silky, light and sweet. Not quite as nectarine and syrupy as the “Yellow Buds” but more translucent and sweetly floral. Very impressive and I wish I had bought more.

Mannong’s white buds are first rate. There’s an extraordinary soft mouth-feel with a slight honeysuckle sweetness that grows with subsequent infusions. After a fre steeps, let the leaves rest overnight and re-steep in the morning.
