From Palais des Thés

Dong Ding Jade Oolong is one of the best-known and finest Taiwanese teas. Imported to Taiwan during the 19th century, it is grown in the mountains of Nantou county at an average altitude of 800 metres, where the temperature rarely rises above 20°C. Its leaves are a lovely deep green colour (hence the name “Jade”), and are carefully plucked and rolled by hand. They produce a very thick, smooth liquor with floral qualities as well as delicious sweet vanilla, butter and caramel notes. A typical Dong Ding and very approachable, it will delight oolong fans.

Specificities :

190, 1 tsp, gongfu. 30 second rinse followed by 30 second steeps. As far as greener oolongs go, it reminds me a lot of Jin Xuan, more so than Golden Turtle, which was extremely floral. This tea is floral but not overpoweringly so, with a delicate fruitiness and buttery mouth feel. I lost count how many infusions I’ve done, but you can really steep the hell out of this tea. I like it.

I quite enjoyed this tea, even though I’m more into an oxidized oolong than a jade oolong.

This Dong Ding is quite floral with jasmine and baby’s breath notes. The tea has a really nice texture that is thick and smooth, with notes of sweet, asian pear, leafy vegetables, sweet peas. Later infusions has a bit of acidity and dryness.
