From New Mexico Tea Company

A flavory and tasty combination of mellow peaches with deep full flavored apricots. Makes an absolutely tremendous iced tea.

In China, archaeologists working during the time of Chairman Mao discovered evidence of people enjoying apricots and peaches together at least 4000 years ago. From those ancient times, both fruits eventually made their way westward in the form of cuttings and seedlings, traveling via Persia to the Mediterranean regions of Italy and Spain. In Italy, both fruits flourished and rose in such popularity that they became noted favorites of various rulers of the Roman Empire.

Wouldn’t you know it—-cold dreary day giving way to cold crisp sunshine today; perfect tea weather; a mug has been omnipresent in my hand all weekend … and we’re having Internet fits so I couldn’t log a one of them. Oh, the joys of ISP’s that don’t see much of a need to service their rural areas. But I digress.

Nicole kindly shared this one, and it is mighty tasty! The flavor surprised me. Extremely rich and extremely strong. Leans more heavily to the apricot side, and the black tea base has some meat on its bones, too. (Oh, look, a bunny! Not really, but my ADD just kicked in while….

….

…..I went to the kitchen and put a spoonful of raw sugar and a dash of cinnamon in my cup.)

Now it’s apricot cobbler!

This is one I plan on keeping around.

Sipdown :) Another nicole tea (there are more coming…) I have been not so fond of my peach teas lately but this one made up for that. While it was clearly a peach tea, there was also the apricot notes that came through, and likely made it more enjoyable for me. I think this would make a fantastic iced tea. I think i’ll be placing an order with these folks once i get my cupboard down to a more manageable size. thanks nicole!

The package actually says “Peach Apricot Indian Black.” Not sure if that means the tea is an Indian base or what but the leaves are small and curled up in squigglies like the Nilgiri I’ve had has been (and I do lumme some Nilgiri). Smells very, very strongly of peach when dry. I can see some of the dried fruit bits as well.

The tea base isn’t omnipresent but the overall flavor is great. Excellent and strong peach taste and undertones of apricot. Good warm, but as the company notes, tremendous iced. I would think this might be a good gateway tea to serve to people who think they don’t like tea.

Second steep is still good but obviously weaker. Don’t think it will handle more than two steeps. But it is pretty reasonably priced (at least comparable with the other places I get most of my tea). I’d keep this in the cupboard for sure.

This was my first experience with NM Tea Co. Shipping was super fast and I’m pleased with the experience. They are going on the list of companies to do business with again. Thanks to Jubjubs for posting on their shipping deal. I would never have found them otherwise!

Steeped for 5 minutes exactly, and it was much improved from the cup I had yesterday, a very nice balance between the fruit flavors and the base. I feel like this is not the same base tea NMTC is using in its other black teas. It’s good, just punchier than the regular base.
