From Mountain Rose Herbs

Ocimum sanctum, aka o. tenuiflorum. Also called tulasi or holy basil. The type of holy basil sold by Mountain Rose at this time is the “Rama” variety (with green leaves and purple stems), thought to be the strongest type medicinally. Its fragrance somewhat resembles sweet basil, but it is more mint-like with a strong clove note. Used in Indian Ayurvedic medicine for common colds, headaches, stomach disorders, inflammation, heart disease, various forms of poisoning, and malaria. Holy Basil is considered an adaptogen, which means that it assists the body adapt to stress (environmental, physical, or chemical), restore balance in the body, and normalize body functions.

I love the effect of drinking Tulsi- it really makes you feel great after a long hard day. I prefer to steep it using a 4 part Tulsi/2 part Peppermint(any mint in a pinch)/1 part Stevia leaf. NEVER the stevia extract or the current lines of commercial stevia sweeteners. Slight licorice flavor with earthy undertones for the Tulsi- proven adaptogen that balances you out. They still don’t know how adaptogens work, only that they do; gotta love that.

I’m not sure if what I drank and what this is, is the same, but I this is the only “Tulsi Tea” by this company up here, so I went with it. I’ve been looking for a good Tulsi Tea, since I have been incredibly interested in trying some, and I am so happy that this ended up with me. I drank “Tulsi Delight Tea” which is actually not just straight Tulsi, but it’s an herbal mixture. This is by the same company that I sampled in Sedona, AZ while on vacation, so thats pretty cool to me. The flavor is amazing. I sat out in the rain and meditated while sipping on this. The taste is alike basil except sharp and spicy. The brew is encapsulated with lemon, mint, and a dry vegetal tone. This gives a thick sweet aftertaste and eucalyptus tinge. I was able to get two very strong steepings out of this, and I will definitely be stocking up. This was the perfect brew to a perfect night.

I’m not sure if I should read this in disbelief or curiosity. I’m not sure if there is a tulsi tea that I would like out there after trying a few… so maybe doubt is the right word, but where there is doubt there is a road to travel to satisfy the doubt by finding an answer.
That’s my way of saying, “I will check in on this tea”

I’ve never had straight tulsi, but this was amazing! I think you should, and the company is pretty fantastic xP

For loose-leaf drinkers, this team resembles faintly the smell of a strong green blend of some kind. But rather than a vegetal taste, it carries a more menthol smell that extends to the drink itself. Just not an especially pleasurable drinking experience if you don’t know what you’re getting into. Just a bit too bitter, not especially flavorful in an enjoyable way and certainly not the type of drink to oversteep. More enjoyable than say, Yerba Mate, but…not by much.
