Genmaicha is a flavorful Japanese classic which includes a stunning combination of whole, fresh Green Sencha leaves combined with roasted organic brown rice. The almost sweet, toasted flavor of the rice adds a lovely contribution to the whole bodied green tea leaves. A great tea for early dining, and well suited for afternoon dishes.

Dry leaves smell like fresh cut hay drying in the sun.
As soon as the water hits it I am overwhelmed with childhood memories of saying to my mother “Mumsy, can I have a snack?” and then to be handed a Rice Cake.(You all remember Rice Cakes? For some reason in the early 90’s they were the latest health craze and my Mother was all about them)
So, A Rice Cake Nose with a bit of that grassy hay smell too.
Then taste!
Well,A Rice Cake covered in Salty Seaweed comes to mind.(not that my mother served this to me as a child)
A little bit of popcorn at the back of the tongue.
You might think after that sort of review that I will rate this low.

The flavors only stay strong for a couple of infusions.
The flavor of the tea is similar to a soup broth that tastes of seaweed and popcorn. The rice adds a hot breakfast cereal flavor to the tea that adds depth to its body. It has a vegetal flavor but it’s very light and feels clean.
A short brew time keeps the flavor light in crisp and a longer time brings out the astringency. This tea has a very distinct style. It’s very interesting to notice that there’s rice brewing alongside of my tea leaves. I find the idea very novel. I tried adding a splash of cream to a cup and it only became more interesting. This peaceful and inspiring tea would brighten up any sunny winter breakfast.Flavors: Broth, Fishy, Malt, Popcorn, Seaweed, Vegetables
Have you tried Den’s Tea genmaicha?
No, I have not.
This is the first Genmaicha I have tried probably in ten years…and I am not even sure what brand that tea was.
