Marrakesh Mint

Cold-brewed this in my little infusion pitcher – I regretted buying it at first, since I didn’t think I’d use it much (I was in Teavana, and I’m ALWAYS buying things I don’t need there!) but I’ve been using it daily this summer, so that’s good.

I don’t love this. I get the mint first and foremost, and there’s the smokiness of the gunpowder behind it, but the entire experience is just a bit lacking. I think I’ll leave off a rating until I hot-brew it though!

We had dinner at a fairly prominent “fancy” restaurant with a Hawaiian theme. Very lovely food, very lovely location, and a very cute waitress that had a cool hospitable personality. (irrelevant, I know, but also very important to document)

I decided to try some tea, as I have never done there; I was happy they use Mighty Leaf, as I do seem to like some of their teabags.

The aroma is very green with a faint hint of mint, not as strong as I would have liked, but better than what I’m used to with most mint teabag tea.

The flavor is also very green, with a very faint hint of mint. Very light, which might have been due to the not very hot, but warm water it was steeped in.

It wasn’t bad, but could have been stronger, especially with the mint.

I had this a while ago at a restaurant. Yummy, but I had to add sugar.

I’m not exactly sure what to say about this one. It’s minty and very sweet. It’s hard to say if the Gunpowder adds anything special. It’s very good as far as mint teas go, though.

Clearing and cleansing, awakening aroma. Good first tea of the morning to nurse me out of a hangover and little sleep (bigfatgreekwedding). Dry grass gunpowder green tea with subtle bitter-smokiness, bright and sharp spearmint. Gently sweet, mineral-astringent tingling. Good balance to this tea.

I got this tea yesterday from the coffee stand in the building next to where I work. Normally, that coffee place is pretty good and I like the way they make vanilla bean tea lattes mmmm…. But as it’s summer and my stomach was not in top form, I decided to go with this mint tea and ask for it iced. The barista informed me that I could not have it iced because it was a hot tea. I informed her that if she brewed it hot with less water than usual and then poured it over ice, it would become an iced tea. She told me I would have to wait for it to brew. I was unsurprised by this news and assured her I was fine with that. She very doubtfully followed my instructions, but did not brew it nearly long enough, I think. All I got from this tea was spearmint. I really couldn’t detect the green base at all, which is a shame because this is my favorite way to have green tea. So, I won’t rate this because of the dubious preparation.

This is one I’ve tried often before and really liked, and today is no different. I love the clean, sweet spearmint notes, and the light, slightly nutty green base. It’s a great pairing, particularly iced on a hot day. It’s rainy today, so I’m drinking this one hot for a change and it’s just as pleasant. I know it’s traditional to drink Moroccan mint teas with lots of sugar, but I absolutely don’t feel the need with this one. Maybe it’s the spearmint, but it’s plenty sweet enough for my tastes already. I think I overdid this one slightly today — I got distracted by a phone call and forgot to take the bag out. There’s a slight dryness at the back of my throat, but it’s nothing terrible. This is one I really could be pursuaded to keep around in the summer — it’s one of the nicest green teas with mint I’ve tried so far!

I didn’t know Mighty Leaf made a “North African Mint” version. I just had this while at Milestones. It’s my favourite version of green tea. This one was good for a tea bag version.

I normally only drink Mighty Leaf in restaurants because I prefer loose leaf and you can usually only order online from Mighty Leaf. But when in doubt at a restaurant, it is very flavourful.

A little less minty than I prefer, but heady and soothing enough for an evening cup.
