From Lazy Cat Tea

Laocong Xiaozhong 2018
Tea- Black Tea (Not Smoked)
Harvest – Spring 2018
Origin – Tongmuguan, Wuyishan

This tea was produced in Tongmuguan, Unesco world heritage protected area where tea trees grow in a pristine environment. Unlike most areas of Wuyishan that are at relatively low elevation, Tongmuguan is situated at a much higher altitude of around 1000mt.

This tea is made from older trees (laocong) left to grow freely in Tongmuguan. Tree reaching a certain age gives tea a special flavor called “cong wei” or old tree flavor. We don’t know or care about the age of the trees used to make this tea. What we care about is that the cong wei in this tea it is very clear making it quite special and nice to drink. It has a clean tasting balanced sweetness and low fragrance with soft mouth feel and will last many brews producing a sweet lingering feeling in the throat.

We don’t recommend this tea for beginners as the qualities that make it special might not be noticed.

To get an idea of the differences in Xiaozhong taste we can suggest to try our Hongcha Tasting Box.

Gongfu Sipdown (1542)!

Woke up early enough on Monday morning to sneak in a full tea session before leaving for work! This is a lovely black tea with such a round and clean sweetness all throughout. Early steeps taste of sugarcane and slightly under ripe banana with more red fruit notes and a gentle peachy taste emerging shortly after! Beautiful, balanced, and brilliantly long lasting! I feel like I’ve been getting a lot of more green banana notes in teas this last week though, which is strange and starting to feel a little weird to me? But I guess not complaining because it’s still always a nice flavour…
