Fujian Wuyi, China 1980s
Our 1980s Lao Shui Xian (老水仙) is one of our favorite teas at Laifufu. It is a nearly forty-year-old, aged Wuyi oolong from Fujian with such a rich depth of flavor that we recommend brewing it in a small pot so as not to become overwhelmed. A small pot will also allow one to enjoy the uniqueness of every infusion cup by cup. The fragrance of this tea is like a complex honey made from a flower that only blooms at midnight once a year. The taste? Well, that is best experienced with no preconceived idea so we will not say here. This is an exceedingly rare tea and when it’s gone it is gone forever. It will have passed beyond time to become a part of history remembered only by the lucky few. Each year you hold onto it, it will become more mature and delicious (not to mention more valuable). For the connoisseur, keeping some of this on hand is akin to savvy investing in the stock market…
