From Harney & Sons

A new brew perfect for adding a hint of the tropics to long summer days, Island Dreams begins with a base of fine, nimble-bodied green tea. Layers of tangy pineapple and sweet coconut deepen the flavors along with mellow blue cornflowers. Finally, we added rum flavor for a truly tropical infusion that’s equally delicious plain or with a spoon of honey.

I had hoped for strong pineapple and coconut flavor from this one, but didn’t get it. It is okay but not a repurchase for me. I am using it to make iced sweet tea. It is very good that way!

I’ll try it as iced tea. Thanks!

September Prompt – a tea with coconut

When I first saw the prompt, I thought I was going to have to skip because I couldn’t remember any tea with coconut on hand. As I stood before the tea shelves staring and hoping for inspiration, my eyes landed on this tin, and I remembered it had coconut flavor.
At first I balked at having it for breakfast but decided to roll it, and I am glad I did.

I have had this a couple of times and was initially disappointed. Today was a little different. I got over the disappointment that it wasn’t POW in your face pineapple. I was having a half serving of oatmeal (seriously all I can stand of it) with honey and cardamom and the tea actually went really well with it. Something about the flavors in the oatmeal pulled a little more flavor out of the tea for me, or maybe I just did a better job of steeping it this time.

The broken leaves are pretty large in this blend, and it is really pretty to look at with all the blue cornflower mixed in with the flat, green leaves.

Sipping, I got a good taste if the green base and a bit of pineapple, possibly coming out more because it was juxtaposed with the honey in the tea, and the creamy coconut flavor made everything smooth, rich, and mellow, the way vanilla does. Maybe the flavors pop more when sweetened, but I will probably keep drinking it unsweetened.

It is growing on me.

the aroma is definitely pineapple tropical right out of the tin.. however once brewed it feels more subdued and not as flavorful as I had hoped. something about it tastes off, but maybe i need to try more first. flavoring is still good, perhaps just need more tea/water ratio. WNRP for NOW since I only tried once.

What a cheery tea! It’s not particularly nuanced or unusual— just pineapple and green tea with a little coconut— but well executed. The flavors are balanced and the pineapple tastes fresh, not dry. It also resteeps like a champion, even when abused in the manner I usually abuse teas by leaving them in my cooling pot; that seems to be due to the pineapple moreso than the tea itself. Overall, sunny and refreshing. I’ll be buying a full sized bag of this.

This was my cold brew yesterday, since I’ve been alternating between shan tuyet and lemony gunpowder for the last few days. The tea itself is very pretty and I love the tin. Mainly bought this for the tin last year. The smell is definitely fruity, you can detect that blend of pineapple and coconut but can also tell that they’re the flavoring versions of the fruits.

Had to break out the gram scale for this one because of how light and airy the tea is. 3 grams for 16 ounces of water was either too much or too little because it somehow tasted like cinnamon. A hint of pineapple, some coconut if you thought of coconuts while taking a sip, and a definite cinnamon note that overshadowed both of them. That’s a concerning thing to taste in a light tropical fruit green, so it made it hard to finish, but it’s still drinkable. Probably going to be mixing lemon juice and maybe a touch of honey into pitchers of this from now on. Assuming it would be good in the summer like that. In the middle of winter as a plain cold brew, ehhh, not so much.
