From Gorreana

Gorreana’s broken leaf tea has been a staple on European tables for over a century. Grown in the highly aromatic hills of Gorreana’s organic tea estate, comes this fantastic breakfast tea that indulges the senses.

The third addition to our premium black tea collection is our broken leaf tea and is picked from the lowest leaf of the Camellia sinensis tea plant.

This tea has a smooth, light taste and subtle aroma with very little in tannin. A perfect tea for those who appreciate the high quality of an organically grown black tea, 125 years in the making.

I don’t think I’ll ever order from a company whose name sounds even remotely like Ghonnorrea…….

A very pleasant tea.

While the Orange Pekoe and Pekoe black teas from Gorreana are quite similar with their deep flavors, this one is lighter in character. It is still strong enough to take milk, which I prefer. I quite like it, but it stands out less in my mind than Gorreana’s other black offerings. It is not flowery or spicy, which is a good thing in my eyes. I’ll add more detailed notes next time I have a cup.

I ran out of this tea just after the holidays so the last batch I dried the leaves and was able to get two more steeps out of it.

Azores vacation teas!

I got to tour the Cha Gorreana plant on Sao Miguel Island in the Azores and got to sample several of their teas.

This Broken Leaf tea is another basic black tea, but still has that distinct flavor to it that the other teas from the Azores Islands has. Being grown in volcanic rock soil, it’s going to taste much different. And it does.

This one is much more subtle, with a very gentle flavor. I almost wish I had brought some home with me, but it was 4th in line and I onlyhad somuch room in my bag.

Again, it was brewed in a large pot, so if I took the time to brew a single serving, it would probably be a little bolder. But all in all, a nice little solid, basic, subtle black tea.
