Cocoa Chai Tea

This was an alright tea, I felt like having a tea bag… the smell was so strong with the chai.. it was so spicy for the smell, it put me off a little… I couldn’t really smell the cocoa in this… the taste of the tea is the exact opposite,, I can taste the cocoa, and not so much the chai.. I did add milk and sugar to tone it down though…. It was drinkable.. I did enjoy it… I wouldn’t buy it or feel the need to drink this again..

I bought this because I had a coupon, but I don;t think I’ll buy this again. Any cocoa is barely perceptable — it’s as if the ingredients in here may have been cocoa in a previous life. Very thin tasting, even after brewing for nearly 10 minutes. It’s hot and it’s wet and helps digest dinner. Other than that, FEH.

ummm, i’m kinda embarrassed to say, but i love this. yup, tea snob that i am, i still love this. two bags, steep 5 minutes, add 1/2 & 1/2 (the good stuff), a bit of agave. delicious. i added a touch of whiskey to it last night. a movie, this tea, a splash of sass. nice. don’t know if i’d pay full price for it though. it was on clearance. i am a sucker for the word cocoa.

I am not much into chai’s considering I can’t handle spicy things. This smells like the spices and the cocoa. I can taste the black tea the spices and the cocoa. This tea is very pleasant and I like the touch of the cocoa.

I did not enjoy the spice in this tea. This was a sample that was given to me. I would not buy this tea. I am happy I was able to sample this tea as I continue my Tea Journey to discovery of teas.

That was the quote on my teabag tag, and that’s how I feel today. Added 1 pc brown rock sugar and a splash of 2% milk. There’s definitely more spice than chocolate in this. Meh.

I love chai. I love chocolate. So why is this tea such a disaster? This does not have the flavor profile of any chai I’m familiar with, and it does not taste very chocolatey to me either. It’s not that I don’t like cacao nibs, which have a unique, raw, almost wine-like quality – in fact, I buy cacao nibs in bulk because of how often I use them.

The cacao and chai overtones are there, but the spices are skewed towards an odd curry-like savory direction. Vague, sickly sweetness and chicory root overpower a thin black tea component, and the whole thing has an oddly musty, dirty sock/fish vibe. There is no sweetener or creamer that can redeem this. This tea has been on the shelves for a while, so somebody is clearly buying it and enjoying it. I just tell myself that I got some crazy dud, because it disturbs me to imagine that somebody out there would have been depraved enough to enjoy the cup that I poured down the drain.

The main flavor is cocoa (not “chocolate” but if you’ve ever tasted unsweetened cocoa powder it tastes like that). The other spices emerge after longer steeping. It’s not what I typically think of as “chai” (which is heavy on the cinnamon and cardamom), but it’s “chai-like”.

I usually drink a Celestial Seasonings Sweet Coconut Chai if I am craving chai, but I just found this in my cupboard and thought it would make a great chai latte. I steeped it extra long (5-6 minutes) since I wanted the stronger flavor. The scent of the tea bag itself lacks the scent of typical chai, but did have a strong spice. The brewed tea was pretty much more of the same. It didn’t taste like chai, just a mix of different spices with a very minor hint of chocolate that you have to strain to taste. The predominant taste was the spice mix, which just did not taste right. I added some creamer and a bit of sugar, but the flavor did not improve. I was only able to have a few sips, before I started dreading the next sip. It also did not sit too well with my stomach. Overall, very disappointing.

Good for easing into tea. It’s sweet enough at first, but I wouldn’t buy it again. I expected more richness/flavor.
