Sorry I have been absent for a month but my wife and I have been moving into an improved remodeled house. It took almost 2 years to get it the way we wanted it. I even have a tea pantry now (Its really more of a hutch but its all tea).
This is a very nice Ceylon tea. Its woodsy and fruity and reminds me of a darjeeling. I even like the pyramid tea bags although they are stuffed after steeping. I’m going to try cutting open a bag and steeping to see if there is any difference. I have been drinking Dilmah as breakfast tea for the last month (I have 4 varieties) and it has really grown on me. Now to try other Ceylon teas. I have to buy more tea as the last month has really done a number on my stash.

I brought a teabag of this with me to breakfast this morning, but the water I was given was not very hot. This resulted in a weak, slightly sour and fishy cup. I wanted to give it a fair review, so I brewed another cup this evening.
Many people said that this reminded them of a Darjeeling, and this in certain ways this was true for me too. It was brisk and woodsy but it did not have any floral or muscatel notes at all as far as I could tell. It had a little bit of unidentified citrus zest to it as well, but maybe this was more of a texture I was picking up on- the tannins are strong, but they don’t dry my throat as much as they cling to my tongue and roof of my mouth. There is a sweet aspect which almost tastes like skim milk was added.
What a difference the water temperature made! I really enjoyed this second cup!
Once I got used to brewing this and having it black I really enjoyed it. It’s a classic high grown ceylon (at least that’s what I realise now) .Clean clear light flavours and a threat of astringency if you oversteep it.I’m not sure I’d compare it to Darjeeling from the limited experience I have so far. This seems cleaner and clearer but less complex. These high grown ceylons seem like perfect refreshing afternoon teas to me. Crisp ,clean and not overcluttered.
I thought it was odd this tea had good tasting reviews because I hated it, but I was probably brewing it wrong. It was really astringent, odd smell and taste. Not at all like the other dilmah teas I’ve had.. any advice? I was using filtered boiled water steeped 2-3 minutes
Try 2.30 to 3 mins water off boil and drink black. It does have earthy and mineral flavours and can be too astringent if overbrewed .
