Everyone knows it’s not afternoon tea without scones! So of course Dessert by Deb’s Afternoon Tea Collection had to incorporate a few tea blends inspired by some of my favourite scone flavour combinations.

If you know me and you’re familiar with the Toronto bakery and tea scene, you’ll know Baker & Scone on St. Clair Ave is one of my favourite spots and a must-go if you’re in the city. One of the very first scones I ever had from them was their Lemon Currant scone and since currant scones are quite the classic on a number of afternoon tea menus, I created Lemon Berry Scone to honour a beloved favourite. Have this tart and fruity blend with scones, cream, jam, and lemon curd for a truly delicious teatime!

Certified organic ingredients: Black Tea, Lemon Peel, Elderberries, Raisins, Currants, Hibiscus, Canadian Maple, Brown Sugar, Calendula Petals

Handcrafted in Toronto, Canada.

Steeping instructions: 2 tea spoons at 212F for 4-6 mins

Past sipdown – most of my Dessert by Deb teas are undocumented and unlogged, oops. That includes this one. This has been one of my favourites, light in flavour but I just really liked that berry/lemon combo. I believe I have another bag to work on in the future.

Taste wise, this blend reminds me of Genuine Tea’s Elderberry Hibiscus, except Lemon Berry Scone is a black tea and features a handful of ingredients that help cut what would otherwise be a sharp, tangy tartness. I don’t really get much scone vibes from this tea, but it’s nice enough…

I’m curious is the lemon prominent in this one? I love a bright, fresh, sharp lemon! :)

@silentkettle Sadly, no. The berry portion is definitely much stronger than the lemon/citrus.

Thank you, Antonia! :) Oh no! I wonder why Deb goes lighter on the lemon in her teas? :O I suspect it would help balance out the berry notes to have that bright pop of citrus. I might request this one as a sample in my next order since I also love a good berry tea! :)

Yeah… I don’t know what that’s about, but the orange teas are always much more fragrant and distinctive compared to those with lemon. Maybe a boost is needed via lemongrass or another citrus forward ingredient.

Antonio! :D Yes, her orange teas are super fragrant! I especially like her blood orange cider. :)

And mhmm! I think maybe having more lemon grass or lemon peel would do it! I actually ordered this one before she goes on vacation after reading your review; looking forward to trying it! <3

I quite like this one.

Mostly, it’s an elderberry or blueberry tea to me. There’s a little hint of lemon, but not much. There’s also just a little bit of tartness from the hibiscus that helps round out the berry flavor nicely, and maybe the lemon is blending in there as well. The added sugar only creates a subtle sweetness, thank goodness. I’m not sure whether I get maple specifically? The base tea has a bit of a musty hay note to it, perhaps from the high recommended water temperature.

I don’t really get scone, but it’s a perfectly pleasant elderberry and blueberry tea. I think next time I may try a lower temperature and longer steep, just to see how that affects it.

Ou! I wouldn’t have considered ordering this one since it has a black tea base (I wonder if this might be better as a base for a green tea?) But it sounds super yummy! :)

Honestly, the base teas she uses are extremely mild and there’s usually a lot of other “stuff” mixed in, so I’m not sure how much I would notice if this were a green base… :P

Aww! That is true! :) It works out well for me when it comes to rooibos blend, since I drink a lot of tea but I do not like having too much caffeine, ha-ha! :) Glad you enjoyed this one! I will look into getting it

This is the second iced tea in today’s sipdown battle. The other tea is Tie-Dye Butterfly by DAVIDsTEA and the tasting note for that tea can be found here: https://steepster.com/rachel12610/posts/416185

I have never had this iced and I personally haven’t loved it hot so I thought I would give it a try this way. This iced tea suffers from the same issues as the hot tea unfortunately though – no scone, no lemon, some berry and black tea base. It maybe is not as flat as the hot tea tends to be but it’s also just a mediocre berry black tea iced. Preferable to it as the hot tea but still not a tea I care for that much. As such, Tie-Dye Butterfly is taking the win.
