Coco Chai Rooibos Milk Chocolate

Coco Chai Rooibos was one of the first teas I bought from DavidsTea. It came in their Sweet Indulgence sampler pack and let’s just say that I wasn’t impressed. I’m not really a chai person, unless I can steep it in sweetened milk, and this tea didn’t do so well there.

In chocolate, however, this is fantastic. It’s creamy and rich with the spices/cinnamon adding a nice heat to the whole experience. I love this chocolate. Plus, it’s a nice tea substitute on days when I come home to tired to brew anything.

Dry leaves smells like medicine, but once brewed it has a nice warm, chai smell to it. Steep for a shorter time – I steeped for 6 minutes (the recommended time was 4-7 minutes and I like my teas a little more bitter) and you can definitely taste the bitterness. It says it contains coconut but I can’t taste the coconut in it. Tastes like caramelly cinamonny chai. Great, but nothing special.

Anyways, I ordered all of David’s Tea’s chocolates a few weeks ago, and I saved this one for last. There was the white chocolate Matcha Matsu (blech), the dark chocolate Hot Lips (subtle and cinammony, but not much tea flavour present), and the dark chocolate Cream of Earl grey (dark and smoky, with a fruity undertone). This one rounds out the quartet.

Now, the nice thing about the order was that I also got a sample of Coco Chai Roobois, so I get to taste the tea and the chocolate side by side. So there’s definitely an affinity between the two. However, I think the tea blend has more of a ginger/cardamom flavour, while the chocolate tastes more of coconut and cinnamon. The rooibos flavour is also more present in the tea.

This chocolate was a bit sweeter and not as milky as I expected, but overall, it’s quite nice.
