From Dammann Frères

With an attack of delicate chocolate flavours, this tea develops in the cup rich and gourmet aromas combining woody notes of Keemun tea to those of caramel and hazelnut. A fine-bodied drink with an enveloping praline finish and subtle hint of honey flavour. Ideal for tea-time with a slice of praline or chocolate cake.

Comparison: Mon Petit Chocolat & Mon Petit Praliné (apologies as I’ll be posting the same note on both teas)!

MPC (notes: chocolate, cocoa, biscuit, almond): At first sniff, this one smells very chocolate-y. The taste comes through as chocolate, albeit quite thin (though I more or less expect this of DF). Then there is the ‘biscuit’ flavour – which is one of my favourite DF flavours. It adds a complexity that makes me think of having biscuits and tea. Lexa says she gets all chocolate. We both prefer this one!

MPP (notes: chocolate, hazelnut, caramel, honey): At first sniff, this one smells nutty, but I can’t pinpoint anything more specific. I don’t get as much chocolate flavour here, if any. There is the scent that translates to the taste that’s also difficult to pinpoint. I don’t eat a lot of hazelnuts on their own, but my guess is that it’s a raw hazelnut flavour. It’s not bad, but it would be nice to have more chocolate with it. Lexa says she gets hazelnut followed by hints of caramel.

Sipdown! (99 | 196)

I’m not sure what to think of this one, it almost tastes bland to me? There’s a light sweetness and a hint of hazelnut, but otherwise I mostly just taste the woody black base. Maybe a tiny hint of chocolate flavor?

Strange, because Mon Petit Chocolat is fairly strongly flavored.

Dammann Frères Advent 2021 – Day 19

Yes, I prefer this to Mon Petit Chocolat because my hang-up towards almond is more severe than I thought it was (unless that almond tries to be marzipan; then I love it). Drinking it with milk, so can’t comment on how thin it is; the milk bulks out the chocolate-like hazelnut, although it still starts off pretty gentle. As I work through the pot, there is a honey-caramel component to the finish that reminds me all the world of a Cadbury Crunchie bar.

EDIT: there was enough leftover in the pot to try without milk and, I don’t know – but I like it too? It’s different though. Not as much hazelnut, more woody Keemun and Crunchie bar. Something about this tea is drying, which is fine. I like Keemun and have happy vague travel memories associated with it.

Having this with milk. I used two spoons of leaf.

Richly layered chocolate nuttiness. The base comes through beautifully.

I much prefer this to H & S’s Florence that I drank the other day, though to be fair, I used only one and a half spoons there, so it is not a fair comparison.
