From Celestial Seasonings

Red tea, made from the rooibos plant grown only in South Africa’s Cederberg Mountains, has been enjoyed for centuries for its healthful properties. Today, this mellow herbal tea is enjoyed by people around the world as a flavorful way to do something good for their bodies. In our African Orange Mango tea, the slightly nutty flavor of rooibos is enhanced with the sweet flavor of juicy oranges and red-gold mangos for a truly exotic taste sensation.

Today I reversed my opinion of another tea after trying a different steeping temperature and steeping time, so I thought I would give this yummy-sounding tea another try. I cold-steeped it and left the bags in, giving it periodic sips.

After 5 minutes — nada. No soap, not much of any flavor at all. Smelled lovely, though.

After 10 minutes — still nothing.

After 15 minutes — this tea is just a failure with me. Really disappointing.

No flavor even after cold-steeping? That’s a pretty serious fail on the company’s part.

Barb

Yes, about all that’s left to try is doubling up on the amount of tea. But since I’m already using 2 bags/cup, I don’t know whether that’s worth it. It’s strange. The other two reviewers gave it much higher marks.

Alphakitty

Maybe you just got a bad batch? I’ve gotten Celestial Seasoning stuff that is really stale because it’s been sitting on a grocery store shelf for well over a year.

Barb

That, too, is possible. Or that it’s been maltreated. The expiration date is November, 2013.

LiberTEAS

@Alphakitty – that is precisely why I won’t purchase tea from a grocery store any more. I have found tea that had been expired over a year at different locations. Most places really just don’t care about tea nor think about it expiring.

Barb

I am going to start looking more closely for expiration dates but that doesn’t appear to be the case here, since the date is about 18 months away. Although maltreatment (bad storage, high temps, whatever) is a definite possibility.

I drank a cup of this as I was working on a painting this evening. It was every so vaugly fruity, but it was not very memorable. Too bad, as I’ve got a lot of this.

uh… all my tea leavings i turn into the soil of my garden. my plants love it! … …. in case you needed to dispose of it while not being wasteful, lol!

Rosehips

Not a bad idea….

I found this at Big Lots today and saw that it had rooibos in it. The aroma is of oranges, but I taste more of the mango and the honey flavor of the rooibos. It is sort of like drinking mango juice. The flavors taste real, but it is too sweet for me and lacks depth. Adding some cream helped alleviate the cloying sweetness and made it taste more like mangos and cream.

Bought on a whim when I saw it at Big Lots for $2, and because I really like rooibos. Very nice, little bit of sugar goes a long way since its just inherently sweet. I steep mine for a looong time and its extremely flavorful, one of the few teas I can drink iced as well.

I like the Madagascar Vanilla a bit better, but then I’m just a sucker for vanilla. For something fruity, its very, very nice.
