Some travel days are longer than others, and I have grown weary wondering through the Denver airport looking for a decent cup of tea. There used to be a self serve hot water tap at one of the sandwich places and I would sneak in there to steal some water (and sometimes buy a sandwich).

But that is now gone and I have decided I will try an immersion heater in my metal go cup. I am setting a rather low bar, as these metal coils you put in water won’t boil it, but hopefully it will get warm enough for a decent cup. If you have used one of these with success and want to give me a recommendation, I am all ears :)

Ah, yes, the tea. I thought I might include a tea note about how underwhelmed I was with the Organic Black tea (it is Assam in the fine print) that I steeped for 5 minutes in about 14 oz of water. I was worried about it getting too strong and bitter, but I probable could have steeped it a bit longer. It was a large pyramid bag, but I typically like more leaf to my water ratio. It was not bitter, and had mild malty and astringent note. I did manage to sip it all down, but I’m not sure I’d try it again unless I was really thirsty for black tea.

It’s so hard to get good tea on the road! Hope your journey is now headed home toward the good stuff.

At all airports I’ve been to, not one coffee shop has denied a polite request for hot water from their machine.

gmathis – I’m at my parents, which does have its share of good tea, but is not quite like home :)
derk – the coffee shop lines have been crazy these days, and even though Starbucks has said they want you to use your own go cup again, it depends on local shops to make that call, and I continue to be told that they won’t put tea in my cup. If those coffee folks weren’t already underpaid and over worked (no one is happy about spending 15 minutes in line for a drink) I might ask for some hot water.
Instead I found a collapsible travel water kettle on Ebay. Its about 1.5 lbs and I’ll write a review after I use it.

Nothing special. Rich and dark, with a little bit of maltyness. Pretty standard as far as blacks come. It’s not very strong, especially considering the water was so hot it still burned me after sitting 15 mins. Decent with a pack of sugar and a splash of milk. It helps keep me warm in this icebox of a coffee shop.
