Don’t let looks fool you. Although you might not find any hairy white buds in this tea, it would be a mistake to overlook this 2017 Fuding white tea.
This tea picked to a strict standard of new growth, larger leaves only. This is not to be confused with something like Huangpian, where the larger leaves are older growth from previous seasons. In this case, the tea is comprised of younger growth, but the newest buds are left out.
The result is an incredibly smooth and sweet tea with a mouthfeel that is full and as fluffy as the leaves. This tea already shows excellent ageing potential, with a noticeable herbal/medicinal scent from the start. This opinion was reinforced after trying the same material from 2015. In other words, for $0.13/g this tea is 100% tong worthy.
While we would say any of our white teas are good for boiling, this is a standout candidate as the lack of buds make it difficult to become bitter.
