From Bitterleaf Teas

Using Milan Xiang varietal material that would normally be destined to become a Dancong that we all know and love, this tea takes it a literal step further, undergoing a full roast and oxidizing to the point of becoming a black tea.

One of the more unique black teas in our lineup, this tea stays true to its honey-orchid varietal origins. There is a noticeable floral fragrance, while a honey sweetness that’s good enough for the bees will make you question whether someone slipped some honey in your cup when you weren’t looking. A prominent fruitiness also persists throughout the session, making this one of the more enjoyable black teas we’ve come across, and a pleasant diversion from our usual Dianhongs.

Got a sample, loved it so much I ordered more. Brewed in a gaiwan, but held back on the leaf, and went lower on the temp than usual (208F). Poured the water around the gaiwan rather than straight over the top of the leaves. I was rewarded with a honey sweet, mellow but flavorful taste, super enjoyable. Got quite a number of steeps out of it (like, 6?) before the leaves gave up. Like Bitterleaf says in the notes, super honey-forward. Just like I like it.

Gongfu!

The dry leaf of this Dancong black tea processed from Milan Xiang cultivar is almost surreal in how sweet and plummy it smells, and steeped up this tea is even better! It’s practically dripping in syrupy florals and notes of over ripe plums, with a coating liquor and honey finish. Very aromatic and arguably almost too rich to start the day with. Almost being the key word! BLT has been blowing it out of the water with their black teas lately, but this one is just sublime!
