Makaibari Tea estate is one of the oldest gardens in Darjeeling, having been in continuous operation since 1859. 100% organic and biodynamic, the garden follows integrated management utilizing permaculture where the tea bush is part of a multi-tier system of trees, and plants typical of a sub-tropical rainforest, as opposed to a monoculture farm that grows only on crop. It retains 70% of its entire area under forest cover. Various animals live on the estate including panthers, tigers, birds, butterflies, snakes, spiders and more. It was one of the original estates to be certified by the Demeter Association.
Produced from China bushes, this very fine 2nd Flush (or “harvest”) with beautiful, fragrant notes of classic muscatel, light floral and stone fruit finishes with a toasty, full-bodied experience on the palate. Beautiful copper infusion.
