From August Uncommon Tea

Our version of English Breakfast has exquisite Assam and Ceylon black teas with smoky lapsang souchong and vanilla bean. The aroma of warm vanilla custard fills your nose from the first sip of this velvety tea. Next, there’s a pleasantly tannic bite with a gentle smokiness of ever-so-slightly burnt toast. Finally, the vanilla flavor returns as an intense note of freshly scraped vanilla bean. This delicate smoky vanilla flavor lingers. It’s made to be enjoyed with milk, but if you appreciate smoke, we suggest drinking it black. This tea will make you get out of bed.
A tea for lovers of malty sweet teas.

Western, at work, with a cinnamon roll indulgence for the holiday. Fit the bill well enough, though the base is crisper and thinner than I’d like/expected. I was hoping for something a little creamier to underpin the smoke and vanilla, I suppose.

A well done vanilla rich smokey black breakfast tea. August Uncommon does strong and unusual tea blends. I had this with 8 ounces and a tea bag of 1 tsp put together for five minute steep hot with one cube of sugar. I ate with some toast, and still slightly hungry.

Good if you like Vanilla. I will drink down. Do I like enough to reorder? No. The vanilla blends well with smoke and is not artificial, but I am not a major vanilla fan in my tea and it almost makes me think slightly of bananas for some reason.

I love August Uncommon. They seem to be pretty divisive, but I’ve really connected with a lot of their blends. Golden Arrow is one of my absolute favorites, and I decided to restock during the Black Friday sale.

I was excited to add a pouch of this to my order as well. So confident that I was going to love this, I went straight for the 50g pouch rather than getting a sample. I wish I got a sample bag instead.

This tea just does not deliver on the promised notes. I wanted smokey vanilla custard. I just got smokey. Not getting any vanilla whatsoever. Golden Arrow is actually closer to the description of this tea. I’ll need to try out some different steeping parameters.

What a shame! I hope you find the workaround to this tea.

Kelmishka

What a letdown! I’d been eyeing that one.

Definitely a bummer, but maybe different parameters will help. That’s the good part of having purchased too much, I guess.
