From 52teas

Tea of the Week for November 23, 2020!

Oh wow! This tea is so super yummy! It’s loaded with blackberry flavor – a lovely creamy background note & of course, Genmaicha’s roasty-toasty character – SO GOOD!

This blend starts with our delicious organic Genmaicha – then I add vanilla bean & a bunch of freeze-dried blackberries. A fairly simple recipe – simple but delightful! It’s also organic, VEGAN, gluten-free & allergen-free!

organic ingredients: green tea, toasted & popped rice, blackberries, vanilla bean & natural flavors

(52teas (Anne) 2022: 126)

This tea also seems to have mellowed out a bit as it cooled/sat. Or, perhaps it’s my mouth that’s changed a bit and tasting things differently. Either way, I wish this had more blackberries and cream; the toastiness was a little overwhelming when I first tried it earlier, but that has calmed down and the berry flavour is now poking through, along with some creaminess. I think I prefer blackberry in e.g. Blackberry Custard Tart more, but this is a nice variation to keep things fresh.

This was quite good, but it did taste more like a “blackberries and cream” blend than either a genmaicha or a mix of those two concepts. Medium bodied, sweet blackberry jam notes, and a very smooth creamy finish that all in total made me think a little bit of Campino yogurt candies – in a fond way. It was really good but, with how light the toasted rice from the Genmaicha was, the Genmaicha felt a little bit more like an after thought!? Idk – maybe I didn’t get the most representative scoop? Will reserve judgement on the Genmaicha piece until I can try more cups – and at least it was very tasty either way!

Sipdown! (9)

This one just never quite came together for me. The genmaicha base is tasty enough, but the blackberry tastes just a little powdery and Tums-y. I don’t really get much in the way of cream or vanilla either…

Still pleasant, as I really do like genmaicha, but not quite what I was hoping for.

So excited to try all of the November 52Teas blends! This one sounded particularly tasty yesterday, so it was first to be tried. As expected, this is delightful. Another absolutely lovely blackberry blend from 52Teas. The authentic, juicy blackberry flavor goes so well with the toasty flavor of the genmaicha. Really lovely combination!

This one and the Raspberry Fluff both sound delish!
