From 52teas

Sweet African honeybush appears to be MADE for tropical flavors. Combine it with dried pineapple, unsweetened coconut flakes and a touch of rum flavor, and you’ve got a tea so soothing, relaxing and pleasing to the senses, that, like I wrote on the label, you ought to be required to sip it from a hammock on the beach.

This tea won 3rd place in the Flavored Herbal Teas category at the 2010 North American Tea Championships! **

I splurged a little on my first 52teas purchase. I have been drooling over his creations for a couple of years now and they are better than I could have imagined! This one tastes and smells exactly like pina colada. Sweet yet creamy. The flavor isn’t overpowering and blends with the honeybush very well. I resteeped the crap out of it in my infuser thermos at work and the flavor just never dies!

Slurp. I’m not a tisane drinker by any means. I’m no great fan of rooibos. I like my real tea. Thus, I’d never tried honeybush, and I was pretty sure I never wanted to. Then I read all the great reviews about this, so I decided to give it a try. I’d like to have a caffeine-free option available. So, I brewed it up, and wow! It really does smell like a pina colada. It tastes like one too. I can’t really figure out what the base honeybush flavor is, but whatever it is, it was overshadowed by the pina colada-iness, which is just fine by me. Now, if this flavor could be added to a black tea, I’d be in total tea heaven.

I really love pina colada flavoured things. I also love honeybush. This tea is perfect for me. The fruity flavours and the creamy coconut are fantastic with the sweet honeybush base.

Really enjoyed this tea! It’s sweet and goes down smooth. Especially the longer it steeps. I bet if this tea was chilled it would be perfect for a summer day. It makes an interesting cup as I can detect the subtle mix of flavours. I was worried that it would be overly sweet, as some tea’s of this flavour are, but the blend made just the right amount.

Smells and tastes like a Pina Colada.

I’m a very, very big fan of Malibu rum as well as a Bay Breeze with Malibu which is made with cranberry juice and pineapple juice. That’s what I’d like to try next as a variation of flavored tea. 5 out of 5 stars.

This is really lovely… wish I had ordered more than a sample. Slightly sweet, neither the pineapple or coconut dominates, actually does taste like the tea version of a piña colada, especially with a little cream added. There is a buttery taste and mouth feel even without cream, maybe that’s the honeybush, which I am not really familiar with. Ready to explore it more now for sure!

I know I’m kinda of bucking the trend here, but I really can’t get behind this tea.

The dry mix smelled really good, so I was pretty hopeful, but as soon as I poured the water it went really sour. Plain, all I taste is sour, with a mild aftertaste of coconut. I added a sweetener to see if that helped it out any, and it ended up WAY too sweet, but I think I tasted the pineapple a little more. Finally I added a splash of milk, which I prefer not t do with honey bush usually, and it actually helped a bit. As it started to cool, I still got sour honeybush as the main flavour, but it was followed up by creamy coconut and pineapple. I’m not sure why, but even then I couldn’t enjoy it. I could tell that it was sort of like a piña colada, and I could tell that the flavours were there. There is just something about it which made me dislike it, and I can’t put my finger on what. I’ve disliked nearly every pineapple tea I’ve ever tried, despite loving the fruit, so maybe it’s that. It might just be time to officially add ‘pineapple’ to the ‘never in tea’ list.

Frank finished off my cup, since I couldn’t stomach it. I’m thinking I’ll probably either give him the rest of the pouch or cold brew it.

Ah, maybe dried pineapple isn’t your thing? I’m kind of like that with the canned stuff despite loving it fresh.

Nattie

Yeah that could be it! I’ve had the little cubies and I’m not a fan of those either…

Fjellrev

It’s funny how pineapple can taste SO different depending on how it’s preserved. :)

Nattie

Totally. I think pineapple is definitely going on my no-no list.

So I just got home from a ten hour work day and really didn’t feel like making myself supper so…. tea for supper, I suppose!
I bought a pack of this a few weeks ago due to its excellent reviews (and apparently this is an award winning tea, so how could I not?)
I’m not getting any pineapple flavour (this is pina colada right…? ) but it does have a really nice coconut flavour… way nicer than their coconut cream pie tea, oddly. Now that I’m drinking it more the may be a faint pineapple flavour but I might just be tricking myself into this because I want to taste it. Added milk to it (apparently I’m on a milk in tea kick recently) and it did give it the creaminess you’d want for a pina colada tea!

Anyways, this is a really nice (coconut) tea – but I’m not going to give it a higher rating because to me, this is supposed to be pina colada… and I’m just not getting it. But hey, I’ll definitely drink it again!

Good heavens! Why did I ever mix honeybush and rooibos together? Whioe they are somewhat similar honeybush is much smoother and sweeter. If a pina colada became a tea thus is what it would taste like!

This is lovely :) Just had it hot before bedtime and I can’t wait to try it brewed with a little vanilla coconut milk. I bet that will make it quite decadent. Honeybush has quickly become a favorite of mine since it makes everything pleasantly sweet without actually being sweet. I could do with more pineapple, but that part might be more noticeable cold or if I brew it stronger. This is one I see myself drinking often and maybe even keeping around!
