From 52teas

This is one of the more unique teas I’ve yet to create & I’m loving it! It starts with a combination of organic Chinese green teas (Sencha and Yun Wu) blended with spices (Allspice, Cardamom, Cloves, Cinnamon, Cumin, Ginger, Nutmeg & Star Anise) & fruit (apricots, cherries & lemon).

At first glance, it may seem that it has just a little too much going on – but it all works together so well. The fruit melds beautifully into a medley of fruit flavors that is sweet & tangy. The spices are rich & add a pleasant warmth to the cup. It’s not too spicy; instead, it’s warm, comforting & a delight to sip. It’s very chai-ish – but it’s a very unique chai.

I liked this much more than I expected to. The green tea is lovely, and on top of that, I taste some pleasant spices and some fruitiness. I enjoyed this one at all temperatures, though perhaps room temperature is best. I definitely understand the chutney direction, which was such an unexpected and fun flavor idea. The resteep tastes almost the same as the first. I finished my bag of this faster than any previous green tea.

While not a blend I’d pick out on my own, I do think the concept is pretty neat: sweet stonefruit blended with zesty spices to create something that does kind of taste like a savoury chutney.

The lemon and ginger help bring out the zestiness to the blend; it makes it feel convincing and interesting texture-wise. None of the spices steal the show; they’re well blended. The green blend also aids the concept and leans into the savoury with it’s fresh and bright vegetal profile. The tea ultimately reminds me of a green guava chutney I had ages ago, which brings back happy memories.
