From 52teas

It’s been a while since I last crafted a chili pepper tea, so I decided that I’d make up for that with this yummy blend! This blend is crafted with our blend of organic Chinese green teas (Gunpowder & Chun Mee), blood oranges, mangoes & finely chopped dried cayenne peppers for a touch of spice!

This has a kick to it. It’s not what I would call very spicy, but there is a distinct kick to it. The citrus adds a note of brightness to the cup, and the mango is sweet. This is really nice: sweet & spicy! It’s also organic, vegan, gluten-free, allergen-free & all natural!

I can’t help but think this would have been better on a black or heartier base. There’s quite a hit of hot pepper spice, but then sort of nothingness below it. It’s mildly fruity, and the base is actually a lovely green tea, but I think the pairing is wrong. The second time I had this, I think the water was a little too hot (my temperature controlled kettle broke) so the tea turned out slightly bitter. Actually though, that sort of complemented the spicy flavor profile? I had it cold with milk and sugar, and I taste fruit, minerally tea, and a hint of spice. I cold resteeped the leaves, which turned out super spicy! I also get some fruit, but I needed milk to tame the spice. Ha I guess this one is growing on me since I started writing this note a few months ago. The packet is empty now, but I sort of miss it?

Cold-brewed this and took it outside with me for an al fresco work session this afternoon. I’m not sure the chili added much, honestly… the spice felt a little out of place! Maybe if it had just been a mango-chili blend, rather than blood orange AND mango AND chili? I dunno.

Ha yeah I haven’t written a review for this one yet because it sort of baffles me.

Forgot this was spicy, so that was quite a surprise when I drank it! The flavour was nice and fruity – could really pick up on the mango – but I think there was a hint too much spice for me. Maybe less leaf would have helped.
