219 Tasting Notes
Coworker brought this back for me from a recent trip to Taiwan. I was thrilled after some searches and Google Translate to realize this was a real milk oolong and not a green tea.
A very green oolong.
Dry leaf has very little scent to it.
Wet leaf almost reminds me of cooked spinach. Leaves have some breakage, but overall are whole or nearly whole.
Water temp was not quite boiling but I did not measure.
Hot, flavor is light with a wonderful creamy mouth feel. As it cools, flavor becomes more pronounced. I’m not sure how to describe it however.
Doesn’t have any grassy notes that I dislike about a lot of greens. As it cools, it does have a bit of a vegetal note, but this is mild and does not make me feel like I’m trying to drink the water brussles sprouts were over boiled in.
Second steep the vegetal notes in the taste and smell are more pronounced, but not unpleasant. Mouth feel still has that creamy texture, coats the mouth nicely. There’s almost a kind of tang in the back end of the sip. Unsure if this is some bitterness (my perception of bitter is messed up) or something else. Its a little drying on the mouth and tongue, but again not unpleasantly so. Let it really cool and there is a bit of astringency.
Third steep and the vegetal smell is more pronounced, but not so in flavor. Reminds me more of the first steep,
What I haven’t seen hide nor hair of is any hint of the sweetness described. I did at one point seem to detect almost a light floral-ish aftertaste.
The downside is this is just not the kind of tea I tend to crave. Just finished lunch and what I am thinking right now is that I wish I had something else to drink this afternoon.
Attempting to sip down/de clutter teas from my stash.
Well looking in the tin, its obvious I’ve tried this before a few times in the year and more since I bought it. But no notes or ratings, which means I didn’t like it.
Now, its not bad, but not a flavor profile I am wild about. Its more astringent and drying than I like, which becomes more pronounced as it cools.
I think this is one I should be able to finish. Might try this as a cold brew and see how I feel that way.
Bought this back in September of 2022, tried it once, really did not like it, and moved on because I had so many other teas to try and drink.
I didn’t bother rating or reviewing it at the time because it was so busy after the office move and training a new person. And, because I hadn’t liked it, I wasn’t really motivated to try it again.
But I am getting motivated to sip down/clean out teas I am not enjoying. In the office move, I ended up with new drawers which were significantly smaller, which shrunk my tea drawer. Added to this, the company I work for gave me a generous gift certificate to thank me for my work in the move and so I ended up which a whole bunch of extra tea I wouldn’t have normally purchased on my own. So tea drawer has some serious overflow onto the top of my desk and I really want to recover some of that space.
I also decided to go for cold brew as our weather has been kind of warming up (Seattle doesn’t have spring, winter and summer just battle for dominance) and I decided to try this again.
Its nothing like the description. There’s almost a lemon zest vibe to it. Not unpleasant for cold brew. I have no memory of it hot, so I can’t make any comments about it there. I’m not sure if I can honestly say I am enjoying it, but its not bad.
I do plan on revisiting this hot again at some point and will update my rating then.
Wow, its been a while. Got a sampler of this in an order last year and finally sipping it down. Given my last note was almost 5 years ago, I thought I would make a new one.
I’ll agree with the description in that it does have kind of a cereal vibe to the flavor. Not really my thing.
However, I am glad to be trying to again. Tastes change over time and it can be nice to revisit to see how my perception changes.
I’m also updating to match better with my new rating system.
I really love orange. Its one of my favorite flavors. And while this tea is called “White Tangerine”, its ingredients list show all orange.
Also, having fallen in love with Adagio’s White Grapefruit (2nd favorite citrus), I thought I really needed to give this a try.
This has a lovely mouth feel. But flavor wise, there’s just not much of anything. I feel like it could really use some of the zest or the essential oils from the zest.
The tea base itself isn’t bad. I’m sure its nothing to write home about, but its something that I can drink without any complaints.
Surprised as all heck, but I’m really enjoying this. Cinnamon is pretty much the dry scent. Cinnamon is the dominant flavor when steeped. However I have noticed that while drinking I am strongly reminded of baked goods of some kind. There is apple, but ts a subtle flavor and likely what sells the baked goods feeling.
I’d rate this a little higher, but this feels very much a seasonal tea. As the holidays are approaching and the weather getting colder, it really hits the spot. As spring approaches, I’m sure my interest will wane.
