LOVE THIS PLACE!

Found it while on vacation (well okay, BEFORE we went on vacation) and ended up eating there twice (a rarity when I’m on vacation as I like to try new places). Their tea selection is good and you can order it by the pot (they even bring you a little timer and everything) or purchase it loose to take home (they even told me it was cheaper elsewhere). Had my first jasmine green there and loved it so much I bought some to take home (Republic of Tea jasmine green, apparently cheaper at Central Market – which I also highly recommend!).

Food was awesome too. I had some manner of turkey sandwich and my husband had a grilled veggie and hummus sandwich that he’s managed to replicate at home. Great restaurant for those of us who enjoy tea!

The San Antonio Tea Enthusiasts meetup group had a fun evening here. I like the architecture of the rambling old house. All on one story, yet the many rooms, nooks, and corners afford a bit of privacy and a sense of the King William neighborhood history and atmospherics. The food and tea were good, but we got tea bags in the infusers of some of our pots, which was disappointing. The tea service includes an egg timer hourglass, which is turned over when the tea is infused and handed to you on the plate with the teapot. A nice touch, I think. Pretty sure the group will pay a return visit before long.

I love frequenting this place as I would a coffee shop, but it doesn’t have that overwhelming scent of burnt coffee. You can find a cozy nook here to sip tea and snack on pastries for hours. The versatility of this place can be seen in the clientele which varies from the downtown business lunch crowd, students using wifi, mature tea and wine lovers, brunch enthusiasts, the “First Friday” partyers, and I even saw a bridal shower here once. My favorite part of this place is the shelf of assorted tea cups to choose from. They have a decent loose leaf tea selection, but it seems limited to The Republic of Tea.

A nice enough place for tea, desserts, gathering for any and all occasions. Definitely on the pricier end of tea rooms in San Antonio, but you do get what you pay for most of the time.
