This is very mild. I nearly drank the entire cup without knowing what it tastes like. With the last few sips, I was left thinking that compared to the other Lupicia flavored black teas, this is by far the least flavorful – its still an okay tea but nothing special. If you find the Lupicia flavored teas to be too intense, maybe try this one.

Interesting black tea; I steeped it for 3 minutes when the packaging said 45 -90 seconds, so I might be getting some over-flavoring. I think there is a kind of burnt (or roasted) maltiness in the background – most malty teas have it in the foreground – this is much more subtle.

drank Rhubarb & Strawberry by Lupicia

This is a milder fruit tea compared to Lupicia’s other fruit teas; if you’ve had Lupicia’s strawberry tea, this is similar in flavor profile with the powdered candy like flavor / aroma except a bit milder in flavor.

It tastes okay; the smell of the tea is a bit pungent – I almost didn’t want to try it but it is actually better than it smells. I wouldn’t make this again but if someone made it, I wouldn’t avoid drinking it either.

The hibiscus isn’t too strong; like the other ronnefeldt teas – the elderberries are much more pronounced here so you don’t get that sharp ending like the other fruit teas.

drank Decaf Grapefruit by Lupicia

Similar to the Grapefruit Green; the flavors are all muted~ you can still taste the grapefruit flavor but it’s like trying to see vibrant colors with dark sunglasses on an overcast day.

The bitterness is highlighted because the fruit and tea flavors are dulled. This isn’t a horrible tea but I wouldn’t recommend it, unless you like decaf teas. After trying several decaf teas, I’ve noticed a trend where the flavors are always dulled.

Fragrant, bitter-sweet grapefruit on a sunny morning. If you love the smell of grapefruit, I’d give this a try; you get the sweet flavors without the overly bitter aftertaste. The green tea base adds a little grassy flavor that compliments the citrus flavor.

This is an excellent tea that emulates the flavor of british tea for a Japanese palate. I’ve tried a few english teas and this tea tries to achieve the full body flavor of british tea with less astringency and bitterness. I would recommend a try to anyone that found english teas to be very flavorful but perhaps too bitter/course.

drank Decaf Muscat by Lupicia

Similar to the normal muscat version just a little muted – not bad. I like how a lot of Lupicia teas remind me of Japanese bubble gum.

drank Strawberry by Lupicia

Opening the package is like smelling sweet strawberry fields.

The actual flavor is a bit more rough than I was led to believe based on the smell; it has a chalky strawberry flavor rather than a juicy, fruit flavor. This is okay though especially if you happen to be eating some less-processed (read: chalky tasting) chocolate – really nice.

Bio

I don’t have a sensitive palate but I do tend to shy away from harsh and bitter flavors. For instance, I can’t stand raw celery and olives – the smell/taste is way too intense. I find coffee to be too muddy/earthy, tea is light and crisp.

I find plain, black tea to be either too bitter or a bit too bland – unless I’m adding cream and sugar. I love flavored black teas; flavored rooibos is great as an evening drink; and light, grassy green teas are wonderful. Oolong and Pu-erh teas are good too but haven’t had as much exposure to them. White teas I’m still on the fence – one day I hope I’ll find one that I’ll like. I don’t like the spiced teas (e.g. chai)

My Grading Scale:
80-100 – Excellent Teas. These are the Teas I crave all the time, even when trying out new teas.

60-79 – Good Teas. I drink these occasionally.

50-59 – Passing Grade. These are worth a try again

Below 50 – Would not recommend, and probably will never try again
