Tasting notes for these coins were surprisingly difficult to pin down as early steeps were extremely fleeting, there was barely any aftertaste. Despite this, the tea begins with a sweetness typical of oolong accompanied with an astringency carried by heavy tannic mouthfeel. After a couple of steeps, the tea’s astringency felt like it was traveling up through my molars and jawline, making my teeth stick to my lips. Initially writing notes for the review, I had trouble nailing down specific smell and flavor profiles. Grasping at straws, for immediate smells I wrote down feet, toasted lichen, and an indefinite meat, although with further tasting I nailed these confusing impressions down to caramel bookends, green apple as a distant afterward, bread crust, and even green maple leaf and a hint of chlorine in the background. These might seem like strange and even unpleasant tastes but trust me, these roasted coins are delicious and, if this review wasn’t clear enough, pretty unique.
