Well then, that was one of the most hectic Boxing Days I have ever experienced in my entire life. WEM was open at 7am this year. 7am! So glad I didn’t have to deal with that as an employee when I used to work there. Lineups were ridiculous. Some, at places like Michael Kors, wound all the way around the inner railing of the second floor, with upwards of 50, 60 people without any sign of the queue shrinking hours later.
I also couldn’t fall asleep last night, literally didn’t sleep for even a second, so I got annoyed, gave up, and got out of bed at 4:30am to start doing my hair and makeup. I’m so freaking tired.
Like Black Friday, I was able to get things that I wanted to get anyway but kept putting it off. The discount alleviates a little of that guilt. I ordered from DAVIDsTEA last night in order to snag a glass carafe for iced tea at 40% off. I’ve been looking for one for months but couldn’t find the right one, and this fit the bill. More Banana Split and a sprinkles Nordic mug also tagged along in that order.
I also visited three—THREE—DAVIDsTEAs in the city in order to track down some Cardamom French Toast chocolate. No such luck. I actually had two bars in my cart last night for the regular 2/$10 deal but deleted them hoping I’d find them on sale today. Of course every single store had the other chocolate bars, but not this one.
Scored some sweet tea deals at Holt Renfrew too, although I’m a little bummed I didn’t get a tin of Sloane’s Holt’s Blend. They had so many a few days ago, and I arrived there by 11am after the WEM craziness so that was a little sad.
I’m so rambling right now. Over 21k steps later, I’m finally back home and chilled to the bone hoping I’ll warm up with tea and an extra fluffy robe.
My recent, ongoing craving for chocolate orange has prompted me to sip down the last of this tea with a healthy teaspoon of orange fudge honey. That stuff actually exists thanks to that local gourmet honey company I’ve raved about in the past. It’s so delicious, and in this tea? Make that freaking delicious. This is the closest a tea has ever come to being the perfect chocolate orange tea, at least for me. It’s cheating, but I don’t care. That malty sweet base pairs so well with the citrus and cocoa notes.

what were the deals like at HR on tea? Also, i totally forgot about trying to get those chocolate bars until you said this :(
At HR, the Sloane tins were slashed to $9 from $22. I grabbed the last tin of Fortnum & Mason Spiced Christmas tea for $15, and it was originally $38. The other regular F&M, I don’t quite remember the discount but it was something similar like 50-60% off. No MF or Fauchon left, unfortunately. Although I did grab a jar of Fauchon ginger, cinnamon, and citrus fruit confiture for $6 that was originally $15.
And who needs $100 worth of honey to get free shipping. The jars are quite heavy, so I guess it’s largely Canada Post’s fault, but yeah. It sucks. :/
If I procrastinate long enough, HR will have sold out of all their teas by the time I get there. And yes, that honey sounds divine.
HR was sold out at Bay and Bloor, unless they moved them to another area -peeked in the window this morning on coffee run. @ yorkdale they had TWG and holt’s blend according to my other half.
Thanks, Sil. And now I definitely feel no sense of urgency to get there, thanks to your tea mafia family. TWG = Twinning?
TWG = TWG. :) They have a full store in Vancouver, the Urban Tea Merchant. Very fancy. Very expensive. I think they’ve been around since 2008, so they’re fairly new still. https://www.twgtea.com/
Oud is both an instrument and a perfume in the Middle East. I don’t know which TWG is referring to with this tea. http://www.fragrantica.com/notes/Agarwood-Oud—114.html
I can see it mixing rather well with bergamot, for example. Perhaps they are concocting a faux oud with whatevers.
Haha. TWG is ridiculously expensive, and what I’ve tried has not been worth the 50g I’ve had to purchase. I need to start getting teas to go… (They have an $850/50g tea. Which. No.)
Teas to go. But then, I’d need to go to Vancouver. One day, I will go to Van on a tea trip. :)
But this TWG. Just. No. I already need tea counselling as is.

Yes! Everything that Sil said, please.

Whoops sorry, yes! I’ve also had their Pumpkin Spice and Ginger blends. All very good.
wish they were here in toronto. 15$ shipping is silly.

Holy smokes. I’m glad I didn’t know about the HR discounts, or I’d have bought more tea. :)

(I still want Oud Night, but I want 10g of it. Not 50g!)
Thank you, OMGsrsly. Another one to lust for.
An oud-flavoured tea? Crazysauce.
Funny, the HR here never had TWG.

Yeah, I’m not a fan of oud at all in perfumery, so I can’t imagine drinking it.

i haven’t loved twg. i prefer MF or DF as far as fancy french like teas go. August uncommon as well for that sort of higher end blend…or bellocq.
