SmoothTEAS --> Cofftea-inspired

Hola Cofftea

What are SmoothTEAs and how do you make them?

(I saw you had started Following me awhile ago in the new Notices section (I love the new Dashboard tabs btw, SteepsterOverlords) and was reading your profile and I had to ask. I’m not stalking you. =) )

Chrine, stalk away! It’s basically a smoothie using chilled tea instead of fruit juices for the liquid. My favorite is:
*4.5g of your favorite green, yellow, or white teas (I’ve found those work best, light oolongs may also work)
*2.5g dried ginger root
*6oz purified water
*1/4 cup frozen unsweetened blackberries
*1/4 cup frozen unsweetened raspberries
*1/2 cup frozen unsweetened peaches
*1 teaspoon honey (optional)

Heat the water for your prefered temperature for herbals. Add the ginger root and steep for the desired length of time (I suggest using a fillable tea bag for this so the ginger root can be resteeped). Decant the ginger tea and bring it to the desired temperature for steeping the true tea. Add the true tea and steep for the desired length of time and decant. If you’re going to add honey, add it now. Dissolve the honey in the tea and chill in the fridge. Once chilled, put the tea and all the fruit in a blender and blend fully. You could also make a granita by either freezing the tea instead of just chilling it or freezing the smoothie mixture and then scraping it w/ a fork every half hr. I haven’t made a smoothTEA w/ matcha yet, but that WILL be coming.

Whatever you put in it, it’s important to put enough tea in it for the volume of the entire smoothTEA, not just the water you steep it in.

Stronger tea, got it.

Thanks for the recipe and advice. My fruit smoothies are usually thrown together in the morning for or as part of breakfast. Sometimes I have one for a snack mid-afternoon. I’ll have to try cooled tea with fruit sometimes instead of milk, yogurt, or OJ as the liquid.

Can matcha be dissolved into cold water or will I have to heat the water 1st, whisk it, then chill it? If I could just dump it into the blender w/ the fruit and water that would make smoothTEA making even quicker!:)

I flavored my matcha this morning, that’d give your smoothTEA even more flavor. A fruit flavored blended iced matcha would be great too- just replace part or all of the water for milk. I’m not a fan of yogurt based smoothTEAS, but I think yogurt (flavored or not), matcha (powder, not prepared), and frozen fruit would make a WONDERFUL combo! For an even colder, creamier treat- pop it in an ice cream maker or put it in an ice cream ball and have the kids kick it around.
