I grabbed a to-go cup of this, this morning, as I just couldn’t manage sorting out my travel mug and brewing basket.
This was pretty amazing. Super malty, a bit sweet, very broth like in a way that’s quite different than green teas, and almost a note of some rich meat, like lamb.
The second steep wasn’t nearly as interesting as the first, but the first makes this something that I will be picking up.
Flavors: Broth, Malt, Meat, Sweet
Sipdown (108)!
Uh oh. I’m sorry Anlina but despite how thoughtful it was of you to include this one, it’s definitely not agreeing with me. Not even a little bit.
As soon as I opened the packaging, it just smelled really wrong and off to me but I hoped maybe whatever seemed funky to me would sort itself out as this as steeped. Not the case. I’ve been sipping on this mug for the last three or so hours, but I haven’t made much progress – and every time I do take a sip my nose crinkles up so much. It’s like making a three year old eat their vegetables. I just don’t want to.
Breaking it down, I can taste the coconut and some other buttery flavours, as well as the lime and some seriously vegetal oolong and individually I might be all about those things, but they’re not coming together harmoniously for me. Yeah, Tea Emporium “Put the lime in the coconut” but should they have!? Have they just gone too far!?
Yeah, I think so.
VariaTEA I measured out about a cups worth of this for you and it’ll get sent to you eventually in one of our frequent swaps. I don’t really expect you to like it since you don’t really like oolong to begin with, but I could be wrong and it might be worth a try anyway. Who knows.
As for me, I think I’m just gonna dump out the rest of my mug.
This cup was way better than the last one I had. Far less wood from the rooibos base, and more caramel and nutty flavours. Still not pecan pie, but rather tasty.
Flavors: Caramel, Nutty, Sweet
Preparation
Oh hum. I was really hoping for some distinct pecan pie flavours in this one, but it’s not living up to its name.
The rooibos base is just too woody tasting and really overpowers the other flavours. On the finish I get a bit of caramel and sweetness.
It’s not a bad tea by any means, but I want notes of butter and pie crust and nuts in addition to the sweet. And I think that a bit of rooibos would help along the pecan notes, but it’s too much as the whole base.
I really love the unique flavour of pecan pie, so I had really high hopes for this.
Flavors: Caramel, Sweet, Wood
Preparation
I bought this tea from The Tea Emporium in Oakville but they don’t have it up on their website anymore. Flowering teas are so pretty to view in glass teapots. I only brewed 2 min and it’s very light green tea. I can pick up the lavender but it’s very very light which is okay with me. Lavender can ruin and overpower a tea. There’s also a little bit of jasmine which is light. There’s supposed to be amaranth and chrysanthemum in it too. I think chrysanthemum is similar to chamomile and I do taste the chrysanthemum. It appears to be the strongest out of the 4 herbs. Amaranth is something I add to my henna so I’m assuming that where the very slight earthy taste is coming from.
Overall an interesting tea. I usually don’t pick up flowering teas because I have to brew two cups at a time.
Only one tea ball of this so another tea I get to cross off the list!
With many mentions of coconut going soapy or rancid quickly, I decided I should dig into this tea again.
Once again this was super creamy and rich, not too sweet, subtle lime flavour with a touch of tartness, and some floral, vegetal oolong flavours.
I also just love how this tea looks. The creamy coconut, dark green oolong and orangey red flowers are a beautiful combination.
Flavors: Coconut, Creamy, Floral, Lime, Tart, Thick, Vegetal
Preparation
I usually give a lot of side-eye and avoid teas that reference dieting, but lime and coconut make this irresistible to add to my Seven Sisters Tea order.
It’s quite different from what I was expecting. The lime is very subtle. The dominant flavour is the natural creaminess and sweetness of the coconut, and then secondary to that, a bit of earthiness, vegetal and umami from the oolong.
I really like the coconut flavour. It’s very natural, not sweetened, and extremely rich. You can see a fine film of coconut oil on the surface of the cup.
I’m going to have to try this iced with lime wedges.
Flavors: Coconut, Creamy, Earth, Lime, Sweet, Umami, Vegetal
Preparation
This reminds me a lot of Teavana’s Fig Rose. It has the same sweet, nutty fig flavour dominant and then lots of pineapple notes. This tea is very, very sweet.
I’m not sure how much I like this. Like Fig Rose, I really like the taste of dried figs, but the nutty quality of this flavour is a bit weird. Might be good iced. It’s an interesting tisane for sure. I think I need to try it again to form more of an opinion.
Flavors: Apple, Fig, Nutty, Pineapple, Sweet
Preparation
I’m a big fan of Lapsang Souchong, and this is a delightful blend. The pine smoke is very much there, but toned down. There’s also some lovely floral and fruity notes. It’s a more mellow and lighter cup than straight up Lapsang, and a very nice evening sip.
Flavors: Floral, Fruity, Malt, Smoke
Preparation
Tasty! Tropical and juicy, light tasting at first, but with a flavour that builds. Just a tint of tartness, with distinct pineapple and dragonfruit notes. A touch of earth.
Flavors: Earth, Pineapple, Sweet, Tart, Tropical
Preparation
So I’m not giving this tea an optimal first taste, since I’m sipping it while eating pizza with a lot of olives on it, in an apartment full of smelly camping gear that’s airing out. But I need my tea and I can’t resist trying something out of a newly arrived package. And even with all this other stuff encroaching on my palette, I’m still really enjoying this.
I don’t usually drink mates, since I’m not a huge fan, but this is nice. There’s a lot of dragonfruit and pineapple on top, and then the earthyness of the mate and the woodiness of the rooibos comes in as more subtle flavours. Its a touch tart, in a way that compliments the dragonfruit very nicely.
The dragonfruit is a bit subtler than Teavana’s Dragonfruit Devotion, and much more natural tasting than DAVIDs Magic Dragon.
Flavors: Dirt, Earth, Fruity, Pineapple, Sweet, Tart, Tropical, Wood
