And so, I looked at the clock, and it read: 1:30am. And I thought to myself, what a perfect time to make iced tea.
Actually, this isn’t too bad iced. Fruity but not tart, slight coconut. Stirred in a bit of sugar, but it’s probably fine without. I stirred it in without thinking, because I figured it’d be very tart.
Two tsps for 1 cup, ten minutes, poured over ice cubs.

This one was very fruity dry, but the brewed liquid smells only of hibiscus. The taste is mostly hibiscus as well, although there’s something cooling in there, which I’m taking to be the pineapple. Otherwise, there’s a chewy non-fruityness as well, and… a hint of orange, I think. Hmm. Maybe I’ll try more next time. It’s still refreshing, though.
Alas and alack. My jasmine blueberry sample is devoid of blueberries. Seriously. I looked for them everywhere and it appears not a single one made it into the sample. Sob. Sniff.
But the dry leaves do smell like blueberries, and of course, of jasmine, though these are underneath the cough syrupy thing that the Tropical Green also had. The tea steeps to a dark yellow and has, as Stephanie said, a blueberry aroma — that distinctive, tart smell that comes from berries that have been baked into something and are fresh from the oven. There is jasmine mixed in as well, which brings to mind breakfast outdoors under a vine-adorned arbor.
I am disappointed with the lack of blueberries. I don’t feel I can evaluate this properly without them. The tea is tasty enough, but I’m left with the feeling that what I’m tasting is just the blueberry flavoring, and wondering what the taste would be like with the actual berries….
Backlogging from last night.
This is a very flavorful green tea. I tasted the cherry, lots of ripe fresh picked cherries, but didn’t taste much of the rose petal. There was a spice note in the aftertaste that I can’t quite place. I know my drinkware and brewing stuff was clean, so I assume it was coming from the leaves, but couldn’t quite put a finger on it. It may be that I’m mistaking the rose petal flavor, as I’ve never had rose petals in tea. I could swear it was spice though, similar to the spices found in citrus spice tea.
I’m curious to see if this shows up when I brew it iced. Enjoyed the tea, just was surprised by the flavors. Looking forward to my next cup.
This was a free sample so thank you very much. I can see the green tea leaves the colorful cornflowers and safflowers and little pieces chunks of pineapple. The leaves smell like green tea and pineapple. I steeped for a short time. This has a pleasant medium pineapple taste and a light green tea taste. I think this tea I’s pretty good.

The boyfriend requested a Gunpowder and I happened to remember that I happened to have something sample-sized of that sort. Excellent!
The aroma isn’t particularly strong, but it smells quite green and chinese. Somewhat floral as well, which, if you squint, I suppose could be the pseudo-smoky note that some people can find in Gunpowder. Me, I’ve never found it, it’s always been primarily floral for me and I can’t help but wonder if some people let themselves be slightly biased by the name of the tea. But then again, floral and pseudo-smoky notes are very closely related to one another and people interpret them differently.
Taste-wise I still find it rather floral, more so than smoky. I love smoky, I want it desperately to be smoky, but it just won’t be. With that disappointment (again) behind me, it’s actually a very pleasant tea, this one. It’s not so overwhelmingly Chinese Green in flavour and even strikes me as borderline oolong-y and with a smoothly, thick creamy note.
Quite pleasant, this.

This tea has a nice smell that is reminiscent of caramel apple I suppose and there’s some nice little apple chunks visible that were mixed in with the rooibos. Sadly like so many flavoured teas it smells better than it tastes.
IMO plain rooibos has a slightly apple-like flavour anyway, so I think it’s masking much of the taste. The caramel is there – sort of – as a bit of sweetness to each sip. Nothing really stand out and screams ’Caramel Apple" unfortunately.
Meh. Let this get a bit lukewarm before sipping, and kinda glad I could. It’s gulpable, and I can swallow it, but it’s not good. Their’s something in the aftertaste that tastes like dry paper/cardboard. I wish the bergamot and honey were a bit more present in this. Just not my kinda tea. I do like that it isn’t super asparagus-y as are some greens.
Haven’t had much time for tea these days, but I broke down and made myself a cup of this after I received my samples from The Jade Teapot in the mail. I think this might be the same as Art of Tea’s Uji Gyokuro, if it matters.
This is my first gyokuro, so I’m a little hesitant to rate this. The leaves are very dark green and full of chlorophyll. It seems like there are quite a few stems in this sample, so it’s probably not the greatest quality Gyokuro. I emptied the entire sample packet (about 1.5 teaspoons) in 8 ounces of water.
First steep, 45 seconds: The smell is very similar to matcha, or at least the vegetal flavor of matcha. The taste is also reminiscent of it, except less seaweedy and powdery than matcha usually is. I can’t really pick out much other than the grassy, delicious taste of the gyokuro…I’m not getting butter or gardenias, although there is a slight perfumy quality to the liquor.
Second steep, ~30 seconds: Okay, I should have only done around 5 seconds for this second steep, because it was quite bitter. Still, it was delicious. Less sweet, and more savory.
Third steep, ~2 minutes: Lighter than the second steep. More savory/umami, and a bit bitter and drying. It’s very brothy, for lack of a better word; I kind of wish it were a bit saltier. The flavors are considerably weaker, though, and there isn’t any of the sweet/buttery/green/vegetal yumminess that there was in the first two steeps. Perhaps next time, if my second steep is shorter, the third steep will still be tasty.
Overall, this was nice, although I think that there are probably some better examples of these flavors out there! It has made me curious to try more gyokuro.
Malty! Even just opening the sample, it simply goes boom with malt. It’s sorta fun.
My thought, since I’m using my whole sample on one big ole cup, was to drink half the cup with no additives, then add a little milk and sugar so I could compare how it holds up. Yeah, that plan lasted all of one sip. Because one sip with no additives? Bitter bitter bitter. Oh help. No no no. I need half & half and sugar in this one. NEED IT.
A dash of additives later… Oh, so much better. It’s a little like a biscuit covered in honey or maybe light Karo syrup. It’s not a homemade biscuit, though, maybe a frozen one. Yeah, that seems about right. I don’t think I was heavy handed with the half & half, but I can taste it through the tea every so often, a warm creamy milk taste that steps in front of the tea for a flash. So while adding half & half doesn’t make it taste like horrible, thin cardboard as it does in some teas (yes, I’m looking at you, Kenya Kaproret), perhaps this one doesn’t quite hold up to milk that well. Though the more I sip, the more I enjoy that milky taste popping up.
It’s a nice morning tea but it doesn’t quite wow me. It strikes me as a good daily Assam – nice, but not so nice that you feel you need a semi-special occasion to have some. It’s got a fairly nice body to it. It does (in my view) need additives, but I’m okay with that because 9 out of 10 mornings I need additives, too. I could see myself picking up a bit of this if I were already getting something at the Jade Teapot and I was running low on breakfast-ish teas, but I don’t think I’d seek this one out.
I got this as a free sample. Dry I can see the white tea with the osmanthus and the peach. I’t smells like white tea with some osmanthus and abit of peach. I steeped this up and can smell the peach more. Taste wise I tasted the white tea the osmanthus and abit of peach. I just wish there was more peach I feel the osmanthus overpowered it. Still this is pretty decent. Thank you the jade teapot.
I’m having a cup of this now and am enjoying it quite nicely. At least for my tastes I really like the flavor of the oolong – it’s not too strong but is still very flavorful and the orange isn’t fake or over the top or distracting and seems to be the oolong’s faithful companion or maybe partner in crime…regardless – they work! The orange works in the background…it’s just yummy. There isn’t much more to say. The coloring of this oolong is a cool tan/brown and very clear.

Dry leaf smells like blueberries. – I don’t think I actually SAW a blueberry in the Loose Leaf Mix tho.
I am unable to smell the Jasmine…until…it’s infusing! YUP! Then it smells like Blueberry with Jasmine and Green Tea.
It’s a light brown-green in color post-infusion.
It taste like Jasmine, primarily, and then blueberry on the assist.
I find this satisfying, yet, not something I would usually pick out on in person – mostly because of the jasmine…because I’m not really a Jasmine freak. BUT…this is fragrant and pleasant.
I don’t really have enough for a large cup left in my stash but I am trying it anyways!
SIPDOWN ALERT!!!! #2 for the day!
It still smells pleasant but it doesn’t look like a ‘brewed’ black tea…very light in color.
The taste is mostly cranberry. little to no black tea taste and little to no hibiscus.
Human error because I didn’t have enough to infuse – it’s not the tea’s fault…
This is a Medium Brown in color and lightly scented cranberry black flavored tea. After infusing the aroma almost disappears. Eventho this tea is quite tasty – I can’t really taste the black tea itself and I KNOW it’s because of the hibiscus. BUT…having said THAT…I still think it’s tasty! I’m drinking it hot but think it would be terrific iced. You can surely taste the Cranberry…I don’t know if I would call it Cranberry Cobbler because when I think COBBLER I think crumbly-cakey type thing in addition with the Cranberry but it’s moreso JUST a sweet Cranberry with no cookie/cake-like taste. But again, I must repeat, this IS tasty…and I keep point this out because I usually can’t stand stuff with Hibiscus in it. This is the way to use Hibiscus folks…
I remember smelling some ‘funky’ cucumber from Adagio a while back and I know I wasn’t the only one who had that funkiness! Anyhow…at first sniff this reminded me of it…almost like a vinegar stench. As it infused it mellowed out, thankfully. BUT…my water wasn’t hot enough…so…I will have to try this one more than once…since I already infused I am still going to drink it…
Ah…heck…I decided to do it iced…pretty much there anyhow…
Strawberry comes thru after the infusion regardless of water temp, apparently. It’s light and pleasant and tasty. A very nice iced tea, indeed. I will try this hot someday but this is the COLD review. YUM
