Discovery tea box – Tea #7
A wrapped teabag from the teabox. I seem to only find this brand in teaboxes. I didn’t expect such a strong Ceylon. To me, Ceylon isn’t very strong. But this one was quite dark in the mug. With hints of strawberry. Definitely not the worst for Ceylon… I’m usually expecting a cardboard type flavor. This was more of a solid black tea. Maybe nothing special, but definitely not bad. Not the worst teabag I’ve had (and there have been plenty.)
A standard supermarket black tea in the Middle East. It’s drinkable & quite a bit better than the ubiquitous Lipton Yellow Label which dominates the region, but not quite up to Twinings level. But it’s cheap, and frequent supermarket promotions push the price down even further.
Preparation
This is totally peppermint tea speckled with sugar, akin to a candy cane. I don’t taste the base but regardless, this is soothing, tasty, and refreshing.
Thanks, MissB! I don’t have anything else to say about this tea but hey, sometimes less is more.
Sipdown!
I surprisingly found this tea quite good. I am a big fan of Cardamom in general, (but wait, isn’t it cardamon?) Anyway, the flavour really stood out with a strong black base. I had no bitterness through any of the cups I steeped of this, but a light astringency toward the bottom. I did not add anything to it though, mind you. I would be glad to have it again if given the chance.
Flavors: Astringent, Cardamom

Today’s blog post was for #12. Woohoo! I had to resist an urge to buy more of today’s tea. I really really liked it.
MMmmm strawberry!
Not as distinct as the orange version. A little more generic than that. Still, it was pleasant and a perfect balance of tea vs flavour. I swear, the day I bump into this brand at a store… well let’s just say my cupboard will be in trouble. and my wallet.
Kirk, yup Canadian Bulk Barns. It isn’t the best quality though. They keep it in clear containers and it tends to be a bit crunchy. Still worth a look!
Oh man this is good!! Another one from the travelling tea box.
At first I was skeptical. Surely this one would be too much for me. But it is super pleasant!
Other reviews are so right. With a splash of milk, it’s just perfect. Spicy, refreshing, and brisk. Quite astringent mind you. My mouth is super dried out feeling.
Still, if I see this in a store, I’m gettin it!!!
Another one from the box!
Black tea. Orange flavouring. A bit fake but tasty nonetheless. Kindof like a lollipop. More like orange creamsicle when cooled off.
I dig it.
Extra points because most fruit black teas lose their mojo for me when they cool down. Not this one! noms
From MissB! Thank you! (also a sipdown, whee!)
This tea is so good, IDEK. With milk, it’s just amazing. Strong base, WOW cardamom, dash of milk to even anything out (not that it really needs it, I don’t think), and yum.
… and I’m sitting here thinking I should have sent my last bag to Dexter. Sorry! But if you see this in a grocery store, get it. It’s actually really nice!
The TTB from before she left. :D You can get it in various international/eastern european shops. I know I’ve seen it before, I’ve just never bought any.
A sample from MissB! Thank you. :)
This is really really good. It’s exactly what it says it is – a cardamom black tea. Nice and strong, very spicy, amazing with a splash of milk.
I really like it, and if I was in the market for a cardamom tea I’d totally hunt this down and buy some. As it is, I have Too Many Teas. ;)
Preparation
When/if you decide to look for it. It can be found lately at bulk barn, Metro ( or whatever subsidiary is around you), among others. It hasn’t been to hard to find lately. The strawberry one is pretty good too!
High fives, TeaBrat! It’s an interesting club to be sure.
yyz, I was just going to say we don’t have a bulk barn here, but apparently we do! Just in a pain-in-the-butt location to bus to. :)
@Kittena, I have used dessicated cardamom with good results, not sure about the pods. The powder is super fine and might just make a mess in your tea.
I just crack the green pods and added them to good result. It’s not quite the same flavour as this tea though.
Grabbed this at a Middle Eastern Market in the Mission while I was in San Francisco. I’d say this is really coffee-like with zero coffee in it – although that may be because my son’s grandparents put cardamom in their coffee grounds prior to brewing. (Try it, it’s delicious!) Rich, full, heavy and thick tea, and surprisingly tasty for bagged.
Flavors: Cardamom, Thick
Preparation
I can’t seem to find the name of it. It was right on Mission, along the less, er, nice side of the street, just past the 24th & Mission BART station. So my horrible directions… it’s almost directly across the street from the soda shop on Mission. Oh wait, I think I found it on Yelp. Samiramis Imports, 2990 Mission Street (between 26th and 25th).
’Here’s Hoping’ traveling teabox Round #2 // Tea #17
Steep #1 // 35 min after boiling // 2 min
Ceylon green? I had to try this one. It looks like a dusty gunpowder green. The first sips are very marine & vegetal. Not as strong as a gunpowder. There is a nice sweetness to it. I like it! It’s a different green tea. Fellow teaboxers, give this one a chance!
This has a pretty nice strawberry flavour, tart, bright and fairly natural. Tastes convincingly like fresh strawberry. The flavouring is pretty strong over a light Ceylon base. The tea was more bop size rather than the dust you usually find in bags, faintly astringent and enough body to give the tea depth, but it`s flavouring is pretty lost to the flavouring. I taste just a bit of bitterness underneath. The tea has enough depth that it could take milk. Not bad for a tea I only bought so that I could meet the minimum for debit!
