Had this yesterday as my morning tea. It was the loose leaf version, and I REALLY liked it. Can’t remember how long I steeped it (probably either six or eight minutes) but with a dash of honey and almond milk, it tasted just like a hazelnut latte! It gave me a good energy boost too, without the jitters or seriously upset stomach that I get from coffee.

Drinking this now. Lovely, lovely, lovely. It’s like someone took chai & melted a chunk of dark chocolate in it – the chocolate taste isn’t overpowering, but it’s certainly there. I steeped for 8 minutes in 3/4 c of boiling water, then added 1/4 cup almond milk & a bit of honey. Definitely recommended for chocolate & chai lovers.

I’ve tried this a couple of ways & here’s my conclusions:

It’s much better iced than hot. Also, it’s VERY strong and VERY tart. My first time drinking it, I did 1 cup of hot water to 1 tbsp of Scarlet, and it was overpoweringly tart. No amount of added honey or sugar could stop the tart. It was like drinking a liquid Warhead candy (anyone remember Warheads? No?).

The second time, I tried two teaspoons instead to one cup of boiling water, let steep, and then poured over a handful of ice after adding sugar. Much, much better. When cold, the tartness is staunched a little and you can really taste the fruitiness – more like a Sweet-Tart than a Warhead. I’m getting ready to make up a little pitcher of it this way, in fact.

Oh, and it’s good for a second steep. Haven’t tried third though.

Had a small sample of this in the Zhi Tea shop today. Very sweet – I love sweet teas & I think this is the first tea I’ve ever come across that I didn’t want to add sugar or honey to. Very, very good; a medley of sweet & spicy flavors. Recommended!

YUCK. I didn’t like this at all. Had it last night to see if it would work as my new bedtime tea. I steeped it for the full ten minutes, and it tasted very strongly of cinnamon – I couldn’t really taste anything else, aside from an aftertaste of…dirty? It tasted like the tea had been made with dirty water, or something. I’m not a big cinnamon fan at all, so it was way too strong for me. Going to try steeping it for five minutes, or adding some almond milk (or both) and seeing if I like it any better.

I hope they’re not discontinuing this tea – I couldn’t find it anywhere on their website! Amazon still has it for sale, and I’ve seen it locally, so hopefully it’s just some sort of a glitch.

Anyways – I LOVE this tea. It’s strong and a bit sweet – I add a bit of honey and a dash of almond milk, and it’s mm-mm good that way. It also energizes me without giving me the jitters – I’m very sensitive to caffeine, coffee is WAY too much & leaves me shaky/irritable all day. This is perfect though. It’s my go-to morning tea at the moment.

I actually really like this tea! I seem to be in the minority, though. It did take me a cup or two for it to really grow on me – I can’t really taste the mint, but can taste the licorice and a vague herbal sweetness. I don’t find it medicinal tasting at all. It’s already fairly sweet with the stevia, but I add a bit of honey because I have a ridiculous sweet tooth. Very relaxing and it definitely helps me fall asleep.

However, I did stop drinking it because it contains St. John’s Wort, which can apparently play havoc with hormonal birth control. Ladies, be warned! I miss having a bedtime tea, so I’m going to try the Kava Stress Relief by Yogi as a replacement.

I am on birthcontrol. Maybe I should stop drinking it.
