392 Tasting Notes
I got this on the way to class. I have been experimenting with adding milk and creamers to tea because I am used to just plain. I tried this tea with Irish cream creamer. It wasn’t horrible but I think it detracted from the tea. I definitely like this better plain.
I had this last night but steepster was having issues loading on my computer so I couldn’t log it then. I steeped the tea for 7 minutes and I found some flavor. I smelled more sweet – a little carmel-y or maybe it is toffee. I don’t know that my nose can distinguish the difference. Anyway I added milk again. This time it actually looked tea with milk whereas yesterday it looked like milk with tea. I got a little more black tea flavor and something that tasted kind of mocha-y and I am getting alittle of that carmel/toffee.
I had this tea again. This time I tired it with milk because I thought that it might help the chocolate and toffee flavors come through. Unfortunately it is still pretty weak. Perhaps I need to use more tea, although I already use more than I normally do with loose leaf. It is still a decent tea, it just doesn’t have a ton of flavor.
Had this this morning. It smells so delicious. I wish my whole apartment smelled like this tea. It smells rich and exactly like black tea should smell. I slightly over-steeped it but it was still pretty good, but then again anything that has caffeine tastes good at 6:30 in the morning.
This tea smells pretty strongly before it is steep. I associate the smell with green tea/grass. Unfourtanely my boyfriend associates it with fish food so now I haqve it in my head that this tea smells like a pet store.
Beyond the smell it was a pretty boring green tea. Given the description I thought the flavor would be a bit stronger but it was a very light tea.
It really annoys me when a company just says “green tea”… but at least you know it’s Japanese. I’d shoot them an email. As every Japanese green has unique parameters, a change in water amount, temp, or steeping time may improve it. All the Japanese greens I’ve had (aside from matcha) were and were supposed to be fairly light.. But then again I haven’t tasted this one and don’t know what your personal definition of "very light is:)
Yeah it just says organic green tea in the ingredients. And yes perhaps it needed a longer steep time or hotter water for the flavor to really come through. Maybe I will have better luck next time I make it. I also just figured it would have a strong flavor because they described it as “lively and grassy”. Perhaps it is just not my cup of tea so to speak.
Had this today on the way to work. I wasn’t in the mood for black tea so I decided to switch from my normal darjeeling tea. This tea isn’t great but it is quick and only costs 85 cents so it works.
It has a very week green tea flavor. I think this is because this tea is a blend of green and white tea which makes it have a lighter flavor. I personally prefer green and white tea flavored.
Sadly I got busy and my tea got cold before I could finish it but it was decent while it lasted.
