First of all, thank you JustJames for this gem!
I show up at my workplace, and there’s a big bag of sample teas! What a way to make a girls night!
I’m looking through everything for something that’s herbal (caffeine has always wreaked havoc on my nights, since I was a kid), this one catches my eye. The leafs are flat and skinny, and dusty looking (the lapacho I’m guessing). Sort of a rusty colour. I feel like I’m smelling an orange vanilla sort of aroma….
Steep it, let it sit, and sip. Oranges slide subtlety over the tongue, followed by (and I have no idea why) something vanilla-y. There’s also something almost spicy, but not spicy. It has a very unique flavour that one tastes with the tip of the tongue and the back of the throat. It’s there for a fleeting moment on the tongue, then the orange, then you feel it’s spice at the back of the throat. Then the refreshing but subtle aftertaste of oranges.
Overall a lovely experience. I’ll be drinking this by the pot.

drank Very Berry White Tea by Teavana

Sounds a lot better than it is. I’ve had issues with this tea from the start. It smells and looks very nice but that’s where it ends. It’s too tart and the berries sweetness isn’t carried through at all. Even with honey those tart notes are too bold to be ignored. I really can’t bring myself to drink the rest of it, but then I don’t want to throw the leaf out either. I guess it’ll just sit in my cupboard for the rest of eternity.

Welcome to Steepster. If this tea isn’t right for you then you could always try and swap it with another member. :)

Had a weird day today; rushed morning, steady afternoon, horrifyingly slow evening, and then that hour after work where you take a wrong turn and end up on an adventure of detours, left turns, the highway, and turning up right back where you started.
I needed something fresh to start over my night before I went to bed, and only 3 cups of this the day before and I’m addicted. Resistance is futile. Don’t even consider unwinding with mint. This is was you need, or so my brain is telling me.
Brewed this one up hot, and this time didn’t make the mistake of sweetening it. Used more tea that I probably should have, and I have no regrets. The taste of this one is different when it’s hot. That taste of tang at the end when it’s cooled off presents itself at the beginning when she’s hot. Tang, then sweet, then your mouth waters for more and your nose begs for you to keep inhaling the juicy aroma. The aftertaste, fruity, not bitter, a dance of flavours plastering your mouth.
Dynamic, and beautifully caffeine free, this one is here to stay.

drank Maharaja Chai Oolong by Teavana

I like this one. I’m not so sure about the oolong, as there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of it in this tea, but as a chai, it’s very nice. Really nice and spicy, though, not as much as I would prefer. (If there’s anyone who’s found a strong chai, I wouldn’t mind recommendations) Even the second steeping is nice, the oolong flavour presents itself a little more as the chai spices get diluted.
I would buy it again, but if I found something a little stronger I would probably switch.

i love this chai… i combine it 50/50 with the samurai chai that they also carry: sweet, spicy and caffeinated!

Erin

I probably pick out all the pineapple pieces (why is that in a chai anyways lol) and give it a shot.

Wow! I’m so impressed with this one. I went to DavidsTea today, for two refills and an empty canister and asked the girl behind the counter for a fruity recommendation. Couldn’t resist the beautiful aroma of the dry tea.
Steeped is even better. I had it hot out of the pot my first cup, with a little bit of honey. It’s was so delicious, and fruity. My second cup was cooled down a bit, more room temperature and no sweetener. I made a mistake sweetening it to be honest. There’s this quirky tangy note at the end that the honey took away, and it adds to the flavour quite a bit. My third cup was cold, no sweetener. I was really impressed. There wasn’t that “cold tea” taste at all. In fact, I think it would be sooooo refreshing on ice, maybe with a bit of vodka or white wine added in at the end of the day. ;) I will be keeping this one in my regular stock without a doubt.

I don’t drink much bagged tea anymore, and this is one of the few. I love spices, and I especially love them in teas. I’ve loved this tea for at least 6 years now.
I’m a chai lover, but in the evening, I’m not much of a caffeine lover. This is a good alternative. I like steeping this tea a little bit longer – usually 5-6 minutes, because when it comes to spices, I like them to “bite”. I love the “bitey” cinnamon and “bitey” cloves. I haven’t found a better caffeine free alternative, and find that the rooibis, teas are too weak.

i agree on the rooiboos strength, it also lends a ‘twang’ to the flavour which i often dislike. i prefer a honeybush herbal from that respect.

This tea was given to me as a Christmas gift.
I found that at first I enjoyed it, and by that I mean the first couple of cups… the truth is, I’m really not much of a “tropical flavours” girl. The pineapple and coconut really started to get to be too much. When people say that this tea is a pina colada in a cup, they’re not exaggerating.
For me though, it was too sweet, and too tropical.

Profile

Bio

I’m a recent addition to the tea drinking community, having only ever had Tetley black in my childhood (a staple for many and the entrance of many into the tea world). I’ve only in the last year really discovered the sensory experience that is tea consumption. It’s something I hope I never grow tired of.

Other than my passion for tea drinking, I’m a fan of music, hand making bracelets (which I sell on Etsy), watching films, reading, German(y), and chilling with my kitty cat, just to name a few.
