35 Tasting Notes
loose leaf
--1 tsp of rock sugar
Nice, takes the edge off of Mate in a way that leaves a satisfying, lemonade-like tartness. Would probably make a good iced sweet tea. I’ll probably use more rock sugar next time but I like to use as little sweetener as possible for a first taste so I can catch all the flavors in the mix.
I’d buy it again, it’s like Wild Orange Blossoms but less orange and more tart.
Flavors: Herbaceous, Orange, Raspberry, Rose, Rosehips, Tart
Preparation
This is the best tea bag maté I’ve had so far. It’s still very mild, but with this one, that’s easily fixed by adjusting the amount of water and tea bags. The taste is soothing, like a Girl’s Scout thin-mint cookie and for the first time cocoa in tea actually has a satisfyingly prominent enough taste. Unlike other maté I’ve tasted, this one isn’t as loud and biting, but it’s still a satisfying taste.
I still prefer loose leaf maté- but I was moving this week and couldn’t exactly access my tea tins- so in a rush, this tea works really well. I don’t know if it’s worth the ridiculous price (with loose leaf you’d get a better deal too) but if you’re in a rush and need some energy, this is a good one for you. I was pleasantly surprised.Flavors: Cocoa, Herbs, Mint, Spearmint
Preparation
Dang, I was really disappointed here. The tea is VERY mild for Chai spices…can’t even taste the bitter bite of maté…oh well…definitely wouldn’t recommend this- the price is NOT worth the super mild taste. Going to try two teabags and less water but you know…it says to add milk for a chai latté but I’m lactose intolerant so does anyone know if almond milk works okay in tea?
Flavors: Cinnamon, Herbaceous
Preparation
I was hoping some off the real bitter bite of mate would be covered somewhat by the added ingredients- but it still tastes almost exactly as any plain yerba mate- though I do detect a tones of coffee-type-roast taste which is nice.
For me I’ll probably mix it with the Rooibos Earl Grey or the Tulsa Chai to take off some of the edge, otherwise it’s pretty good.
If you are looking for a coffee substitute, then this would probably be the drink for you- but keep in mind the intense bitter bite and that I’ve never tasted coffee so…take it with a pinch of salt, lol.
- loose tea w/ infuser
- 4 sugar cubes
-- recommend mixing it with an herbal chai or herbal earl grey.
Flavors: Bitter, Coffee, Herbaceous, Roasted, Sour, Toasted
Preparation
Going to use less water, less steeping time, and one more tsp than before.
Much better- had a taste before adding sugar after steeping, and there was a lot more tasteful. Still tart and kind of bitter, but in the fruity way. Like a strawberry lemonade! Much, much better! Raised my rating about 14 points =D
- loose tea w/ infuser, two sugar cubes
— two sugar cubes after
Flavors: Candy, Fruity, Lemon, Strawberry, Tart
Preparation
First off, it smells terrific! Like candy and super fresh strawberries!!
First impression: very bitter, incredibly bland. Use more tsp or less water next time?
After adding sugar: tart, fruity, a bite of bitter. Good herbal tea, but kind of weak- not much of a bouquet, but still good.
— loose tea w/ infuser
— 3 sugar cubes
Flavors: Bitter, Fruity, Strawberry, Tart
Preparation
- loose tea w/ infuser
- 3 sugar cubes (ran out of rock sugar), then 3 cubes after brewing
Tastes good, but something’s off- kind of bitter, I guess…I didn’t leave this one sitting in ice as long as my last cup of iced tea (“Watermelon Cooler”), maybe that’s it…any advice?
Preparation
Here’s my first time trying to brew iced tea as well as drink it =) I’d really, really appreciate any tips since I’m even more of a confused n00b when it comes to iced tea lol- do I steep the tea longer when making iced tea? After I pour the hot tea into the cup of ice, do I leave the ice in or do I take it out after a while? I don’t want to water down the tea…
Anyway, initial reaction: OMGLOB THIS IS SO GOOD!! So refreshing, I love it!! “Watermelon Cooler” tastes sooooo good as an iced tea! There’s definitely a different taste between this one hot and this one iced but it’s so yummy either way (again, it’s like drinking a jolly-rancher) So glad that the world of tea keeps getting bigger and bigger =D
- loose tea w/ infuser
- 3 or 4 sugar cubes (I’m out of rock sugar)
(Poured hot water into infuser full of tea, steeped, then poured tea into a glass full of ice cubes, then added 3 or 4 more sugar cubes.)
Flavors: Candy, Fruity, Raspberry, Sweet
