When I drank this I didn’t pick up on the sweet potato flavor mentioned in its description, but it was a delicately sweet, floral flavor and mild sweet aroma.

When I read the description I was a bit confused on the aroma of sweet potato, as I’d never perceived such a thing when brewing tea before. Well, now I understand.

Upon completion of steeping this tea’s initial aroma is very similar to boiled sweet potatoes, before fading to a more typical black tea aroma. It is a delicately sweet tea with no real bitterness and just a slight tug on my tongue from a light astringency. This is on my growing list of favorites.

I just got both the medium and large sized brew baskets. The large is narrow enough to fit a regular sized mug, so you don’t really need to have both (unless you need multiple brew baskets; I happen to need a spare at work.) The large worked great in my tea pot. And best part of all: in Deutschland hergestellt!

I was afforded an opportunity to try this by another tea loving colleague. It is the second Darjeeling I have ever had, and is very different from the first – the New Moon Darjeeling from The Tea Spot. Where the New Moon was close to a typical black tea in flavor, this was on the oolong/green end of the tea flavor spectrum. This had a distinctly floral and subtly sweet flavor during all three times I steeped it, and an aroma to match. The dry leaves looked light green and yellow, and the wet leaves were more distinctly light green. The liquor was a light golden color.

I am glad I got to try it, broadening my Darjeeling experience. I couldn’t help but get the sense there was some sort of flavor enhancement in it. Otherwise it was surprisingly flavorful for any tea I’ve had.

I am enjoying a bottle of this cold-brewed with The Tea Spot’s steep n go. It is one of only three teas I have had cold-brewed, and is somewhat different cold-steeped than it is hot. There is still a very faint sweetness to it, but it is almost overpowered by the grassy or “green tea” flavor (I say “green tea” because it is the only thing I can really describe the flavor as, a delicious but acquired taste). It is refreshing to drink it cold, and a great break from hot tea.

This is currently my stock morning tea. Good, robust black tea with a malty character.

Good bulk go to green tea that is good for multiple steeps. It has a faintly smoky or roasted flavor, and just a hint of sweetness.

I only recently started my fascination with tea. I was drinking 4+ cups of coffee a day, and the caffeine intake was starting to affect me noticeably. So I quit coffee, bought some loose leaf black tea and have since grown to love many varieties of tea, mostly unflavored.
